Yes, we can. Audio is not really recorded to a Track, in the Motif XF. Audio is placed in a special User Sample VOICE. That User Sample Voice is placed in a PART assigned to receive MIDI from the XF MIDI Track.

The Integrated Sampling Sequencer is called this because it combines "sampling" with MIDI sequencing... What this means is, a sequencer track will always contain MIDI data like note-on events, controller events, etc.; those MIDI events are used to trigger the playback of audio. The source of that audio is always a Voice, whether placed there by Yamaha (as a Preset/User) or by You (as a User) sampled Voice.

When using the Integrated Sampling Sequencer, you should use the RECORD TYPE = sample+note
This will literally create a Note-On event at the precise location (measure/beat) at which you begin recording (sampling) and it will set the Duration (gate time) so the Note is held to the precise location where you end recording.

If you record using RECORD TYPE = "sample", then no Note-On event is created. (This is undoubtedly what you have done). This Record Type is used for creating a sample used in a musical instrument Voice (like a flute, or a snare drum). And as is the case with any musical instrument sound, you trigger the key to playback the audio on a note by note basis.

Make sure you record using the "sample+note" when you want to automatically have the XF integrate and synchronize your audio sample into the sequencer.

That said if you want to manually add the Note-On event you can
Press [SONG]
Select the Track in question
Press [EDIT]
Here you can INSERT a Note event and create the GATE (duration) to hold the note for the proper length to play the entire audio clip.

Please see the following article on the basics of using the Integrated Sampling Sequencer:
Sampling in the Sequencer

Yes, if you transpose your sequence the Note-On event no longer triggers your sample. Remember your sample is initially assigned to only one Key... And you must have the sequencer trigger that particular Key.

If you need to use the Transpose and wish it not to affect your User Sample Voice, you can Convert your data so that you create a normal Voice where once you EDIT your Waveform to respond to several keys (Note Range), and set it so each key does not change pitch (samples default to Equal Temperament tuning, but you can 'fix' the pitch). Or you can place your sample in a Drum Kit Voice (as Drum Voices do not transpose when you use the main Pattern screen "TRANS" (Transpose) function).
