I have created a waveform with Motif waveform editor from Melas. It’s 362 mb and contains 259 keybanks.
I successfully loaded the waveform on FL. But when I play the waveform with an element it frozes up my whole XF. In order to find the issue I re-formatted the FL and only loaded the corrupted waveform. It still freezes up the XF when I play it with an element and now the system also freezes when I go to Utility - Flash.
I tried. Remove flashboard - Factory reset - install flash board - power up - utility - flash - format > result instant freeze.
The issue isn’t that the flashcard is not formatted or I cannot read or write to it. But I have created a corrupted waveform that freezes the entire system when it is accessed. And it’s occupying my first spot on my flashcard.
use this waveform in an element? Freeze
Try to delete the waveform? Freeze
Try to delete all waveforms on the board? Freeze
Try to format the FL? Freeze
Add new waveforms to FL? Good
Make All backup including FL? Good
Delete another waveform from the FL by using workaround. Integrated sampler job - copy waveform flash to USR and delete after copy? Good
The freeze is instant and completely. No button responds, no sound is heard, the screen and all lights are frozen in their last state. I let it in a frozen state all night to check if it would ever come out. But after 10 hours it’s still frozen.
Any idea's or magic debug tricks to solve this?
You'll need to call Customer Service. I have no solutions for when you purposefully exceed the product's limitations. The maximum number of Keybanks is 256, you've created a Waveform with 259 Keybanks - why? I'm sure illogical behavior is occurring. Please report back what they tell you so others who think that exceeding the limits is a good thing can find their way back from the abyss.
I didn't know about the limit of 256 keybanks. otherwise I would not have created it like this. Strange the Melas Waveform editor didn't give me a warning about this.
On another forum someone suggest formatting it with a MOXF should be possible workaround because it uses a different file system. I'm just back from the local store and indeed they could re-format it in a MOXF without issues. Now I also reformatted it with my Motif XF without issues. And it seems like it's all working fine again.
Good lesson, I will never go over the 256 keybank limit again 😉
Good thinking. The Flash Boards can be used in the MOXF series, the Tyros 5 and the Motif XF series, each, of course, has its own operating system that it formats the board with, but at least you could wipe it and then reformat it. Another reason local music stores are such a valuable resource.
Glad you're back in business!
+1 on local music stores.
