Hello everyone,

My friend bought a new PC with a windows 10 home 20H2 version a while ago and his Motif XF8 isn't working with that computer he asked me to help him with that but I am desperate. 🙁

The original driver for Motif XF8 isn't very helpful for me because the PC needs to detect the device first, but it acts like it's not there at all!
I tried to install every update windows offer, reinstalled USB drivers, deleted registers, tried different USB ports!
I am thinking about downloading an older version of Windows 10 ? might it help?

If I plug his Motif XF8 into my notebook (Win 10 Home but older version) everything works fine 😀

I uploaded a photo of the cable keyboard is using its MIDI right? I am asking if I am using the right setting inside of the keyboard.....

Any advice or trick is highly appreciated 🙂

SOLVED by using shorter cable

In order to help you troubleshoot your situation....Please tell us which Driver (exact name and version) you currently have installed.
On Windows, go to START > under Yamaha find the Driver Control Panel.

I am not familiar with any issues with that version of Windows 10.

Hello, I don't have any driver because I can't install one 🙂 I always get an error

I tried to install this one
https://usa.yamaha.com/support/updates/umd_win64_kbd.html

My issue is that the PC does not see the Motif device when it's connected ...

Your issue is the computer will not see the Motif XF without the Driver. We must resolve this error.

We assume you have established a USB connection between the synth and a port on the computer (avoid hubs).
We assume that the Motif XF is set to MIDI I/O = USB
We also assume you are running Windows 64-bit... correct?
The download includes detailed instructions “Installation Gude.pdf”_ please find that and read through them...

Yes, all above yes 🙁
Windows is 64 bit, MIDI connection is set to USB
and we are using one direct cable which I attached a photo of in question.

Any other tips ?

Make sure your Motif XF is connected to the computer via USB cable when you install the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver.

It is connected but the PC doesn't see it.

Get a working USB cable....

This is going to be something simple (what ever the solution, it is a simple thing). The picture you show is not a cable - it is a connector. Doesn’t seem like it could be the cable, but you need to have a working USB connection between the Motif XF and the computer for the driver to install properly.

Go to START > see if Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver appears listed under “Y”
If so find its Control Panel.

The image appears to be the side of a USB cable that connects to the USB TO HOST port on Motif XF (which has a Type B recepticle). That side of the USB cable requires a Type-B plug. And this is what's pictured - a USB Type B plug. Looks like the right stuff on that end. There aren't many variants of this type of cable and I expect there's a type A plug on the other end that plugs into their computer.

It's worth trying other cables even though this end looks like the right kind for the Motif XF side.

Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R

Yes sir it's one side of the cable ... another one is classic USB 2.0 ... the thing is if I connect it to my other laptop it's working so the cable isn't a problem here

When you say “the thing is if I connect it to my other laptop it's working so the cable isn't a problem here” ... what’s working? The cable? The Driver installation? What’s working?

When I connect the Yamaha keyboard through the USB cable into my old laptop ... my laptop recognizes there is something plugged in my USB slot (you know connecting sound, a new device in device manager) and I can install the driver with no problem.

When I connect the Yamaha keyboard to the new PC of my friends nothing is happening ... while installing the driver on his PC I am getting an error I showed you earlier so PC doesn't know there is something connected so I am trying to figure out what's wrong ...

The USB cable we are using shouldn't be a problem because it works on another laptop so it's not broken.

I was thinking maybe his USB ports are an issue? but all other USB devices like a PC keyboard, mouse, flash drives, external webcam are working so USB slots should be fine ...

so I have no idea what's going on

So the Motif XF works, the USB cable works, and the driver installs, no problem. This leaves your friend’s computer.

Look into problems with Windows computers — particularly take a look at security issues — you maybe running into a security setup that does not allow any changes. HOME always makes me think it is in a child-proof state or you don’t have permission to add drivers due to a system or security setting, etc. I think that is your next step explore what’s up with that computer.
