Hello Phil.
Been over a year since I've used the wireless editors (voice and performance). Connection with both went fine. iPad recognize the XF wireless connection. Both apps recognized the XF as well, but each time that I'd press the "wireless midi port" , it would search, and find the Motif_XFport1 and I'd select that. A checkmark appears, but when I click "back", the selection does not show next to wireless midi port. Nor do I get any response from transmit/receive, other than a timed out message. Neither the in/out lights appear.
Now, the Yamaha Audio Recorder XF connects and works just fine. I'm at a loss. All the Motif settings re midi channels, port, are set correctly and I've stored all settings. (otherwise one of the apps would not have worked).
Since its been over a year since I've used it, could the Apple IOS updates have affected the connection? Any suggestions appreciated. I added duplicate pics so I'll try and send another that shows the screen I mentioned above
Yes. The iOS updates seem to have broken MIDI via the Wireless connection. I've been trying to find out what, if anything anyone can do about it. Each iOS update fixes something and seems to break something else. If you believe in conspiracy theories, it might seem if this had some purpose behind it. I don't believe in such theories. I will be seeing some of our engineers in the next few weeks and find out (definitively) what can be done and what's being done. Since the apps still seem to function completely with audio, and seem to work fine with Midi via the cable connection, the issue clearly seems to be the wifi over Midi on iOS devices. So do not abandon your USB wifi device just yet, it's working, it's clearly Midi via wifi, that's the problem
I'm not a computer geek, but some of the protocol to send Midi wirelessly previously worked with a Windows protocol (SMB). This seem to be purged from the latest iOS... At any rate I'm guessing here. I will find out and report as soon as I can, promise.
Just glad to hear it wasn't my incompetence. Thx for looking into it, and wishing you a happy new year.
Phil- I haven't tried any iPad wireless connection since this post. I know you wrote the issue was being examined.
Any idea of a timeline? I'm not a technician so I didn't nt know if this is a major fix, or just one stacked in a "to do" list.
Many thanks.
Rich
Notice a new version of the App is available introducing Bluetooth connectivity.
Last week at Winter NAMM Yamaha introduced a couple of Bluetooth MIDI devices. No longer down wind of SMB protocol and the wireless function 'breaking', Yamaha introduced a Bluetooth MIDI solution that works for not only the Motif XF series but for a wide variety of Yamaha products and iOS/Mac applications.
The Performance Editor Essential, Multi Editor Essential, Voice Efitor Essential, Mobile Music Sequencer and other MIDI based apps can use these new devices. Seems the wireless audio has never been a problem for the iOS and Mac computer. Now with the release of these little devices we have a MIDI solution.
There is a device that connects to the 5-pin MIDI Ports (MD-BT01).
Thanks for this information. I checked out the MD-BT01 but it's so new that it's not available yet. Since they updated the performance app, I tried it again with my wireless USB , and voila.....it works.
I still may consider the Bluetooth device should my workload ever demand it, but for now I'm thrilled to have this working again.
I suspect you were instrumental in facilitating this "fix" so thank you Phil.
Since they updated the performance app, I tried it again with my wireless USB , and voila.....it works.
Excellent. That's good news!
