Hello,

i have connected a MIDI keyboard with MOXF8 by using midi in of MOXF to midi out of external midi keyboard..

While MOXF is connected with Cubase through usb cable, If we assign USB in MIDI in/out setting (Utility -> MIDI -> Other -> MIDI in/out) will lost external midi connection..

If we assign MIDI in MIDI in/out setting, will lost Cubase connection..

I want to record audio track in Cubase by using MOXF's sounds with external keyboard's keys..

Is there any way to do?

Thanks..

Yes. Through Cubase, literally.

Set the MOXF so that “MIDI I/O = USB” this will allow the driver “Yamaha Steinberg USB ASIO Driver” to handle MIDI and Audio communication with the computer. This includes 5 Ports of MIDI communication to and from the computer, and a dual stereo audio connection to the computer (USB 1/2, USB 3/4) and a stereo audio return from the computer (Main L&R). It also allows the MOXF to act as a MIDI and audio interface for an external device connected to the 5-pin MIDI connectors and the A/D Input, respectively.

Since all you want to do is use your external device for MIDI control, this is easy.

Set MIDI I/O = USB
As mentioned this establishes 5 ports of in/out MIDI communication. You will be using Ports 1 and 3
Port 1 = the MOXF MIDI communication for all music data including notes, tempo, and controllers
Port 2 = would be used for Remote Control of Cubase
Port 3 = would be how your external keyboard sends MIDI to the computer
Port 4 = allows you to run the Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8 Editor VST inside Cubase
Port 5 = would allow you to build control templates for computer based VSTI

In Cubase you would setup both Port 1 (for MIDI from the MOXF) and Port 3 (for Routing MIDI from your controller) as MIDI INPUTS
When you select “Port 3” as the Track’s MIDI IN and set “Port 1” as the Track’s MIDI OUT... you will be able to play the MOXF from the the external controller — it’s audio will then travel Out to Cubase, via USB on audio ports “USB 3/4”

You don’t mention which version of Cubase you are using but we assume you know where to set this up. If not tell us which version of Cubase you are using. And you don’t tell us if you are using the “Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF Editor VST” (which allows for advanced Routing and features). You can still route audio without it, but with it things are far more elegant.

Let us know.
