Hello all! Phil, I need Your help!

I'm trying to make settings for live performance on the MOXF6. I recorded 4 tracks in the MOXF6 sequencer. 5 and 6 track (part) I plan to play live.
The song I'll perform, should have a +1 tone transpose (modulation) on the 32 measure.
I am not a professional musician, so I don't know how to transpose in a live performance. I like to play in two keys: Am for minor scale and C for major scale.
I need to record automation into the sequencer to automatically transpose 5 and 6 parts for +1 tone on the 32 measure.
I have tried to use Control change.

RPN MSB (Control #101) = 000
RPN LSB (Control #100) = 002
Data Increment (Control #96) = +2

RPN MSB (Control #101) = 127
RPN LSB (Control #100) = 127

All is not bad! But the inverse transposition occurs. Every time I play a song 5 and 6 parts are transposed. How to set a reset?
Maybe there's an easier way to automate this process?

Hi Anton,
I'm not really clear about the question. I understand about you wanting to change the key, but I'm unsure about what, exactly, you want to change.

You have four tracks recorded to the sequencer. I'm going to assume it is playing back exactly as you want it to play... In the keys you want it to play. Or do you need to Transpose these tracks "+1" (a semitone) at measure 032?

Transposing the tracks that are already recorded can be accomplished by STORING SCENES, then automating the change using the SONG SCENE TRACK.
Start by storing SCENE 1 with Transpose = +0
Hold the [STORE] button + [SF1] SCN1
Next, on the main SONG screen, change the TRNS parameter = +1 (this will transpose all but Drum Kit Tracks up a semitone)
Hold the [STORE] button + [SF2] SCN2

You can now enter the Scene Events to the sequencer.
From the main SONG screen Press [EDIT]
Use [F4] TR SEL (Track Select) to toggle to the SCN (Scene Track)
At measure 001 enter Scene 1... You do so by inserting a Scene Event.
Enter Scene 2 at what ever measure you wish to transpose the Track up a semitone.

This will transpose only the musical instrument Track data (not the drums, of course). It will not change Parts 5 and 6 (obviously) because they are not recorded data.

I think I also understand that you want to play just the naturals on the keyboard, Aminor and CMaj
This involves NOTE SHIFTING (not Transpose), the PARTS you want to play live. You can "Note Shift" the PARTs 5 and 6 so that when you play them, they sound in whatever Key the song is actually sounding even though you are playing just the naturals (white keys).

There is no Control Change command for Note Shifting.
You can accomplish your goal either by programming a PARAMETER CHANGE (Sysex message) or you can program the Voice that you are playing live in adjacent PARTS... Then simply press the Track Select button to change to the Note Shifted Part.

For example. PART 9 could be the lead Voice in the original KEY, PART 10 could be that same VOICE "Note Shifted" so that it sound properly even though the backing tracks have modulated. Then when the playback tracks modulate simply select Part 10 as the Part you are playing live.

NOTE SHIFT is a MIXING PART parameter.
Press [MIXING]
Press [EDIT]
Select the PART you want to Note Shift
Press [F4] TONE
Press [SF1] TUNE

Anyway, since I'm not actually clear on what you want to exactly, this should get you started. If you cannot work it out, please provide a bit more information. Don't be afraid to be specific about the Keys you are playing in and exactly what needs to be changed.

You rightly understood what I meant!!! My native language is Russian. It's hard for me to explain using technical musical terms in English. Excuse me.

I have transposed the tracks that are already recorded by "JOB - Note- Transpose". Well, it's done.
Now I need Note Shift Parts 5 and 6 +2 (a 2 semitone) at measure 032. Of course, I can do this by clicking on "Transpose" +2 button at measure 031-032. But I am afraid that after a while I can forget to do it. This is gonna be fun!

I read MOXF6/MOXF8 Synthesizer Parameter Manual. On page 70 I found the following information:

RPN MSB (Control #101) and RPN LSB (Control #100) Used primarily as offset values for pitch bend sensitivity, tuning, and other
part settings.

It works! But I don't know how to return the note shift back when the song ends.

Not only might you forget but it will not work. TRANSPOSE works for tracks already recorded - it will have NO impact on the PARTS you are playing live. So if you have already transposed the Tracks that are recorded then all you need to deal with is the PARTS you are playing live.

If you are using the Registered Parameter Number to change the MASTER TUNING - well that can work, your mileage will vary depending on how far your retune the Part. In the Data area a value of 064-000 is normal tuning... 065-000 would be a half step higher, 066-000 would be a whole step higher... etc. 063 is a half step lower than normal, 062 would be a whole step lower than normal and so on. Master Tuning can sound weird if you go too far. A half or whole step may not sound too weird - as I said your mileage will vary.

On the Track that you are playing live you would input the following message:

At measure 001
Select the Track of the PART you are playing live
Press [EDIT]
Press [F5] INSERT>
At measure 001 select the EVENT TYPE = RPN
[000-002] is Master Tune (RPN) followed by the Data: 064-000 which is normal tuning

001:1:000 RPN __ [000-002] 064-000

At measure 032 Insert the following:

032:1:000 RPN __ [000-002] 066-000

[000-002] again is Master Tune followed by the Data: 066-000 which is +2 up a whole step (2 semitones)

Also at the very last measure (xxx) of the SONG I would also place the MASTER TUNE back to normal

xxx:1:000 RPN __ [000-002] 064-000

This way if you move somewhere else you have returned tuning to normal.

Thank you Phil, You are a magician!
Everything works fine with RPN. The problem is solved!

I mean these buttons (see figure below). They work great with the parts.

A week ago bought your new DVD "Music Production with Motif". Great video. Studied all weekend! I wish You good luck!

I have not seen that DVD (strange as that sounds). Shot it so long ago, glad it finally is out, and I hope it is helpful.

For clarity's sake:
I don't see your attachment (picture) but I'm assuming you are talking about the dedicated front panel Transpose buttons... Yes they change the keyboard transmitting, which will affect your playing, without changing the tracks that are playing back. The Tracks of the sequencer can be seen as a second transmitting device. The sequencer's recorded tracks transmit to specific Parts. The data on the track can be "transposed" independent from what you play on the keys. The keyboard transmits to one (selected) Part... Usually a separate track. Transpose is a function of transmit. When you transpose it travels out via MIDI that way
Note Shift, on the other hand, is a function of the tone generator receiving. When you Note Shift only the local Part is changed.
While the result can seem the same, the method and approach is different.

You cannot automate that keyboard transmitting (easily).

Master Tuning does solve the issue, because you can direct it to a specific Part, but at extremes you are at the mercy of "munchkinization" when changing the tuning of audio samples. You are stretching the audio and your mileage will vary...

Glad you are working smoothly now.
