Discard current recording?

Okay, so if there is an answer to this question I'm sure it's very trivial, but I've been looking in the manual and couldn't find it, so...

Suppose I'm real-time-recording something in the sequencer and get a few notes wrong, realizing it would be easier to just redo the recording. Is there a button to press during recording, that discards the recording? The only button that seems to do anything is "Stop" (filled square), and that of course saves the current recording.

This would be especially helpful if the track already has other data (e g if you're overdubbing) where discarding data from a specific recording isn't easily done in other ways.

Thanks!

The Sequencer has two modes, each with its own set of functions. Song Mode, and Pattern Mode.

No, there is no magic button you can hit during Record that discards the recording. In Pattern Mode, you have a real-time ERASE function available while in Pattern Record, that when an Erase button is held along with the offending Note(s), erases that note(s). Example, say you are recording a Drum Pattern ... and you lay down the Kick and Snare, but you mess up on the hihats... simply hold down [F4] ERASE + the hihat Keys (F#1/G#Q/A#1) as the Pattern cycles around in Record you can remove just the hihats.

This works for any Record Track and for any Part in Pattern Mode. Say you are playing the bass line and it a Note by mistake, hold [F4] ERASE + the wrong note... it will be removed as it cycles by.

Hitting Stop, by the way does not save the current recording (not sure where you got that) SAVE is an operation of writing a File to a USB stick. Maybe you mean “Store”... But even before you SAVE your sequence data, you must press [STORE] ... this writes any changes you’ve made to the Song and Pattern modes to the internal memory. If you do not press [STORE] before leaving the SEQUENCER Mode, your data (all that was recorded since you last hit the [STORE] button will be discarded.

In Song Mode, if you Record a Track and do not like what you recorded, rather than press a button to magically make it disappear... that is not necessary... you simply overwrite the data, here’s how:
Press [STOP]
Press [RECORD]
Set Rec Type = Replace
“Replace” simply overwrites the data you wish to discard.

If there is only a measure or two you need to replace use the Rec Type = Punch. You can set the punch in and punch out Measure so that you only replace the bad data.

We have found that these functions work just fine when working in the Sequencer Mode.

Extra Credit: When in Record tapping the red RECORD button again (flashes) this will place the Sequencer in “rehearse” mode — taking you temporarily out of Record — allowing you to practice your hihat Part before dropping back into Record...

Yes, these are all in the Manual. Hope that helps.

Thanks for the answer.

As for the "Erase" function you're describing, I can't find it referenced in the manual, so thanks for the info! According to the display, it seems to be on F6 rather than F4 though.
(I can find the "Erase event" job btw, which could possibly also be useful if it is a CC (instead of a specific note) you want to remove.)

As for save/store, it was mostly me using the wrong terminology - maybe "finishes" would have been a better term.

Sorry, about that, you’re on a MOXF — I believe you that it’s [F6] ERASE (doing it from memory...)
