Half damper FC3A

Hello,
Using fc3a with moxf8.. i can able to use half damper function only with piano voice.. can we apply half damper function to other voices, instead of using RELEASE parameter?

Yes. Although written for the Motif XF the Half Damper works exactly the same in the MOXF... please see the following article:

Thank you Bad mister..

I can apply only with cello voice.. but not with strings or organ etc., sustain remains with low volume.. i don't know what i am doing wrong.. will try..

I have very less knowledge about synthesizer.. can you suggest any books or sites to gain knowledge about synthesizer?

You need to gain an understanding of how Envelopes work to control the shape of the sound. Musical instrument sounds can be divided into two general families: instruments that make sound in response to pressure and those that make sound in response to triggered event.

Your percussion instruments (triggered) are hammered, struck or plucked, the others are considered self-oscillating instruments (as long as you apply pressure to them the sound continues)... examples, would be blown or bowed instruments.

A device that describes changes in loudness in your Synth is called an Amplitude Envelope Generator. It is responsible for how a sound begins, continues and ultimately disappears... in response to Key-on and Key-Off.

In general, a sound that is hammered, struck or plucked will eventually die out; even if you hold the key down on a piano it eventually dies out, a guitar string ultimately stops, a drum skin ultimately stops on its own. All percussion family instruments have a similar behavior. Even the so called Sustain pedal does not sustain the piano forever. Gravity, friction work against the initial triggered beginning event. The Envelope is described by several Time and Level parameters.

In your Synth this is because of the Envelope parameter “DECAY 2 LEVEL” = 0 this is true on all percussion family instruments.

Decay 2 Level describes what happens while you hold the synthesizer key. If it has a value (other than 0) it will be the audible level at which the sound is held. String sounds, organs are likely candidates for significant value for Decay 2 Level. Organs and Strings in your synths are typically setup so that as long as you hold the key, these self-oscillating family instruments will maintain full or in the case of strings, near full volume.

This is how you can control how long the notes actually sustain... you hold the key.
Percussive envelopes always die out even if you hold down the keys; Piano, to prevent immediate silence has a system of levers that when activated by a pedal prevent the felt dampers from muting the string vibration. It does not, technically speaking, Sustain, it simply staves Off the inevitable...

Half damper control requires a percussive Type Envelope (Decay 2 Level reaches 0) to work.
