Hi, I just came across few sites, amazon.co.uk included where they aren't available anymore so just wonder.

Cheers

I would seriously doubt it as going by all the yamaha blurbs it is a resounding success with high sales figures.
Who would really know though as the Motif XF is still listed on the US Yamaha website as a Current Product - despite BM's continued statements that it's discontinued 😮

Probably back order. Some retailers dont' like to hold alot of inventory as thats cash sitting in a box. They minimize and try their best to predict demand but I've yet to see a company do that perfectly. So then if they get a purchase surge, and given the cost and relatively (as compared to an iphone or mp3 player) low volumes we aren't talking about alot of units here, they don't have the reserve stock immediately on hand. So they will be out of stock until they can replenish.

I just looked at two US online channels I tend to go to first for deals (one is where I bought my moxf6). "My" site has both the 6 and 8 in stock, the other has 8's in stock but 6's are "coming soon". and its a really big established online retailer, it specializes more in photography but to say more would give it away.

btw, Amazon US has multiple retailers with stock on hand here.

I would wait till early next year to see if a MOXF replacement shows up If I were you. Not that it will necessarily but it's certainly worth it in case, because you would be getting present technology as opposed to 2010 technology (with the MOXF having been based on the 2010 released Motif XF). MOXF may have been a major successful seller (and fantastic keyboard by all accounts) yet I still can't see how Yamaha will have sold a huge lot of MOXF keyboards since the Montage was announced early last year or at least I can't see them having a very profitable 2017 with it shall we say. It's all about the return of FM now. You can see that by not only the Montage, but the reface DX and FM apps etc appearing for other brand new synths of theirs.
If they do keep the MOXF for another full year, it will surely be done as a strategic move to keep the Montage HOT and selling well rather than actually intending to sell many MOXF's.

In any case, I would wait and indeed do watch very carefully for any signs you think you spot of MOXF "dropping off" on certain websites (as you describe). That would just make me all the more suspicious and ultimately patient/hopeful for an early-mid 2017 replacement.
As for discontinuation of products.. Just look at Motif XF itself- it is still not officially discontinued by Yamaha, yet almost all stores stopped selling them ages ago (like several months back). There seems to be very few retailers online who are still selling them as of now (usually at discounted prices...possibly another reason to wait a little longer to buy your MOXF? even if the MOXF is what you do ultimately buy).

Montage officially replaced Motif XF as the Yamaha synth flagship back in January 2016.
The MOXF is a very current product.

The price point are vastly different so seeing how Montage and MOXF coexist is not any kind of stretch, really.
There's a $2000 (USD) suggested retail price difference between a MOXF6 ($1499) and a Montage 6 ($3499)
And a $2500 (USD) suggested retail price difference between a MOXF8 ($1999) and a Montage 8 ($4499). Just FYI.

All the speculation noise is just speculation noise, not based in reality or on fact.

Get the keyboard that suits your needs and your required price point. But always remember this is for you, it's an investment in yourself and your music. And if your clever, one that can return your investment many fold!

Sorry, just to be clear I didn't mean to say that MOXF is in any way obsolete (even after a new Montage based moxf replacement might arrive) or even that buying one now is stupid, as I have no doubt they are superb (probably almost as good as a replacement moxf would be) . I just meant that since MOXF is from 2013, it's only normal that a lot of people in the market for MOXF are now waiting in hope for it's replacement since Montage arrived last January.

The price difference is very significant indeed between MOXF and Montage so it is no shock that both coexist, but MOXF is not a stripped down version of Montage. The MOXF has always been a stripped down version of flagship. Motif is no longer the flagship so like the Motif itself the MOXF has lost some value. I've no doubt it can slowly but very steadily sell out if Yamaha intend to keep it another year however, and there is nothing wrong with that. It's considered a classic.

To be fair, looking at history and dates of last years. the plastic models of the different incarnations of flagship have come a bit later than just 1 year after the release of the corresponding flagship (motif) that they were based upon too. I should have researched better first. So again I am sorry if I was off in some ways in my reply. Rather than wanting to speculate about anything, I just wanted buyer to be aware that we are reaching a time where many are starting to anticipate a MOXF replacement soon or soon-ish(whether right or wrong). Maybe MOXF replacement will not be till 2017 or even early 2018 or who knows. I am not in the market for any of these keyboards as I already own a Motif ES and for my next synth I long since decided I must have full pro weighted hammer keys of either Montage or a Stage Piano of some kind. In fact I may just even consider an Motif XF8 if any are still around new in early-middle 2017 at a good price (not looking too likely!).

Since the late 80's I've owned many synths (and still do own classics I love that are not made by Yamaha) but Yamaha have always been my number 1 brand personally. I must thank Yamaha a great deal for their consistently good products that have greatly enriched my life.

I know this is an old thread, but I love this keyboard, so I feel like I should add my 2 cents for anyone still searching this topic:

I bought an MOXF in Dec. of 2015 and then at the next NAAM the montage was announced, and I got a little worried that Yamaha might be moving on already.

I've been using the MOXF pretty steady for a few years now and for the money it's a pretty amazing keyboard. In fact, I do most of my composition directly into the MOXF because it's sequencer is crazy powerful. I don't really know of any other modern hardware sequencers that allow you to do an 8 bar pattern on one track, a 64 bar pattern on another track, and a 3 bar pattern... and so on for 16 tracks. It allows for some really neat pattern-based composition options.

I also added the 1gb flash board, and using John Melas's waveform editor I was able to load TONS of all my favorite samples from different synths and other romplers.

All that and it only weighs 15 lbs!

Yamaha support has also been super responsive with any questions I have had as well.

So if anyone is reading this and the MOXF is the only work station in your price range, I'd highly recommend it.

Maybe Yamaha has moved on in a sense, but between solid support, and a huge number of MOTIF sound libraries out there that are compatible with the MOXF, I feel like this thing will be very useful for a long time to come.

This is THE question for a lot of people looking at the MOXF right now...

Will there be an new, updated, model (with a larger, color, touchscreen) coming out in the next few months...

2018 is less than 3 months away - and the Berlin show is less than 7 months away.
