I think its safe to say the Master mode is not as facile as some of the other modes. You can't save Masters (which is strange considering Master mode is touted as a way to create a set list) and the individual Master button attributes are not easily tweaked.
In my case, I've created 7 sets and made 7 All Song files. These aren't really sets, but packages of 5 or 6 songs that I would like to move smoothly to and fro throughout the gig. Package 1 on A Master button. Package 4 on D, etc.
My immediate problem is that each of the Sets resides in it's own individual Master (even though I deliberately gave each Set it's "own" button, as described above) so in practice it takes over 30 seconds to transition from Set/Package to Set/Package because its an All file. That is simply too long of a delay to tolerate in the midst of a live show.
How SHOULD I have set things up? I'm presuming I should NOT have given each set it's own Master, but can I rectify things without having to start all over? It's really tedious changing Master button assignments and you can't (I don't think) change settings manually, you have to have an actual Song file loaded in order to reassign things in the Master. Is it possible I'm dead wrong about that?
The time it takes to load an All File is, of course, miniscule compared to loading an All file. So that would seem to be the solution, but some shortcuts would be sooooo helpful.
Finally, I'm discovering that, IN the midst of a live performance, having to constantly reset the Master button to get back to the Song buttons AND having the synth block me from doing so till I hit (ENTER) --- it's faster and less frustrating to just stay on the All Song file and scroll around, squinting at the fine print.
.
UPDATE: I went ahead and re-did the Master assignments for all 7 sets within one Master ALL file.
But it's still a time-consuming task to break 60 odd songs into All Song files and avoid the data storage limitations.
I'm still wondering if there might be some better way to organize and pare down, simplify, etc. all the steps cause I hate not having EVERY song at my fingertips and I already spend an inordinate amount of time in my live show scrolling around and squinting and it feels unprofessional even as it kind of reminds everybody that I'm using backing tracks. If I can't have some actual spontaneity in my show, I'd sure like to make it LOOK like it. The logistics and technology must have their pound of flesh, so I'm looking for ANY means by which to keep the show moving along. I know some would suggest that using a computer and Cubase might actually speed certain tasks up. But that would just trade one distraction for another.
In a related matter. I'm also still wondering if there is any way to remove the "data fat" from my sequences. The Thin Out Job seems not to do much. I thought it would maybe intelligently reduce the amount of events in a long fade-out or cull out redundant Mod wheel and Expression events. But not really. And by the time I've finished a Song sequences I've long-since removed all EX and CAT type events.
So any tips or strategies, I'm all ears.
