New to Cubase (AI-8), but not DAWs in general. This should be simple, but
1.) I'm not getting any sounds from the MoX when a Cubase MIDI track is playing.
2.) Nor can I select the MoX voices within Cubase/ Inspector
(Imported a MIDI-1 file that I'm trying to rework for new gear. VSTs are OK.)

Within Cubase, I setup my Device: MIDI Ports have MoX 1 thru 5 for ports 2-6, (separate audio interface in port 1); remote tools are installed; USB cable direct between MoX & PC. (Win 7);
MoX is in DAW Rec mode (as from factory)

During playback from Cubase, I get level lights on Mox track, but no sound. I don't get any activity when I use the MoX keys.

(I can't do anything with my other synth hardware either, even though I installed the Device and selected an appropriate setup. I'll deal with that later.)

You are not hearing the MOX, which is delivering signal to Cubase (you see the meter's activity) the problem is whatever you're using as your audio interface. Please provide more information about your audio setup.
You are not using the MOX's built-in audio interface?

You must connect the audio interface to your speakers, if you use the MOX as your interface you must connect it to speakers.
If you are using an external audio interface you must connect it to your speakers, and the MOX to the audio interface with two 1/4" signal cables. But you must connect the device acting as the audio interface to the sound system.

I am using the MOX' direct audio input, and MOX audio output direct to the speakers. My Roland Duo-Ex audio interface only connects my PC through a 2nd USB, and sends audio to a mixer, where its sound outputs go direct to the MOX audio input. I can disconnect from the Duo-Ex interface and use the MOX/PC standalone.
I have recorded audio from the MOX to Cubase, but have not achieved MIDI communications.
Meter activity is not from the MOX, but from Cubase internally. I suspect the MOX is NOT properly "ported" within Cubase or otherwise not properly setup as a Device. (screen shots attached with & without Duo-Ex connected.)

I've watched every video tutorial I can find on setting up Cubase, gotten VST Instrument actions, but only a MIDI track activity meter in Cubase and still NO SOUND. I can't even select a MOX voice in Cubase. (see previous post!) I am aggravated beyond belief but I guess I didn't buy the MOX for Cubase. I would consider the $50 upgrade if I thought it would work or had some support. ARRRGH !!!!!!!!!!!!!! Time to go back to Cakewalk's mess?

Screenshot #1 please unmark the item in the "In All MIDI Input" column next to "Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8-2"

BUT before we go on, please make sure what Keyboard you own. If it says MOX as you've written several times, you have downloaded the wrong items. Your computer thinks you have a MOXF.

The MOX is a different synthesizer for the MOXF. Thus that could be your problem or is it several typos? Let us know.

We'll get you up and running... but knowing which synth it is will be one of those little details we'll need to check.

Sorry, I didn't know there was that much difference. I have a MoXF8, and was just using "shorthand" when I typed "MOX".
I have unchecked "..2" as you've stated, but still not much help with MIDI. Here's a screen shot of my Inspector Output Routing choices. If I used the 2nd selection for Yamaha MOXF, I am now able to make a voice selection. But Not if I choose one of the other 5 below it. (Do I have a doubling of the Device setup as another recent question in this forum?) Though I still only hear a grand piano regardless of my selection.

Something extremely strange is now happening: when I play the MOXF8, I get a variety of new windows & other changes in Cubase (Ab=Channel Setting window, etc.). I do not have the "DAW Remote" button activated on the MOXF.

If your asking questions I imagine you would want the answer for the specific product you own, so I try to be very precise in answering based on the info you provide. In asking the questions, it save me time, if you are precise as well. Thanks.

Your screenshot shows you are routing signal to "Yamaha MOXF (Yamaha MOXF6/MOXF8-2") that's Port 2, that's wrong!!!

Please go to DEVICES > MIDI DEVICE MANAGER
You seem to have connected the MOXF MIDI Device via Port 2 (which is not cool) you need to set the MIDI Port to Port 1
Now when you select that in the Track Inspector, at least the information will be directed in the right place.

We are still routing MIDI... Now that the MIDI is directed properly you can proceed to ensuring the audio is returned properly.
Let us know.

YES !! (I knew about Port 2 being a controller only, but didn't realize that it was The active port by the Device Manager output).
I got one MIDI track making sounds and selecting a voice on the MoxF8.

I added another track for channel 2, set up a new Master [song mode] with 4 channels and am now getting selections and sounds for 4 differing MIDI tracks.
Thanks for the patience.
