I rarely use Pattern mode to create and avoid using Song to Pattern because it's so convoluted and counter-intuitive and, well. here we go again....
I've created a Pattern. I've re-arranged the parts of the song and built them into Pattern Section A. It sounds great. Piece of cake.
I go to CHAIN, I go to EDIT. I go to Convert to Song. I assign the Song slot I want the data to go to and become, it is promised, a Song. I select Measure #1.
I hit Enter and it says NO DATA? I try it as Measure #110, the final measure, just in case. NO DATA. Back to Measure #1 -- NO DATA!
This is so frustrating. Is there yet ANOTHER step involved here? If so, why is there no mention of it in the Reference Manual? (I tried going to COPY, thinking maybe I have to COPY the Pattern (?) but it says, NO DATA.
NOW WHAT?
And honestly, does this supposedly handy-dandy SONG TO PATTERN, PATTERN TO SONG feature HAVE to be so confusing?
Anyway, I have a deadline and this is SO irritating. PLEASE, HELP!
EDIT: didn't realize the category was MOXF (instead of MODX) - so below applies mostly to MODX which may not be applicable.
Selecting to save to a song, it looks like "NO DATA" is a default name for the song. I'm looking at the music production guide on patterns:
http://www.easysounds.eu/MusicProductionGuide_2019_08_EN.pdf
The number before "no data" is the song number. You can use the DATA DIAL (jog) to scroll through other existing songs that are named which will overwrite an existing song. However, assuming you're wanting to use a new unused song slot - then saving to a "no data" song position is appropriate.
In other words, what's shown here is what's already in the slot you're saving to. Not anything about the data you're actually saving.
The actual name of the song will be saved as the pattern name (preceded by the number 003: etc). You can touch the pattern name and rename it to make finding the song easier. And loading the song can be done in the standard "MIDI" tab to hear the linear song you saved.
Along the way I saved the pattern too - although I don't think this is necessary it does make recall of the pattern easier.

Yes. It seems somewhere in those speculations is the answer. The Pattern is not only already Saved, I saved as both an All Pattern AND as an ALL just to be sure I didn't lose it somewhere in the process which makes it that much more confusing to be told NO DATA, and that much more mysterious that the chapter on Pattern to Song in the Reference Manual makes no mention, even obliquely, to SEQ or CHAIN or any other step.
I love my MOXF, really I do. But Pattern mode and Performance Creator are nothing but trouble.
