Is there a way to play a part in a Performance from an external MIDI device? If not, are there alternate ways to play at the same time a voice on the MOXF keyboard, and a voice from an external MIDI keyboard ? Typical usage : playing piano on the MOXF with the left hand, and organ with the right hand on an external keyboard, both sounds being out of the MOXF8. Thanks.

As you may know, in order to communicate between two devices MIDI uses a system of Channels, 1-16.

When using either VOICE or PERFORMANCE mode the MOXF will receive on a single MIDI channel, so no you cannot do this in PERFORMANCE mode.

When the MOXF is placed in either SONG or PATTERN mode, however, a VOICE can occupy each of the 16 Parts of the MIXING setup, and you can freely set the MIDI Receive Channel of any of the Parts.

How to proceed:
COPY your Performance into a blank SONG MIXING or PATTERN MIXING location, then edit the MIDI Receive Channels per Part.

Go to a blank SONG or PATTERN
Press [MIXING]
Press [JOB]
Press [F3] COPY
Press [SF3] PERFORM
Set the dialog box to copy the Performance and then mark the attributes you would like bring over.
Direct them to Parts 1-4

This will initially set all four Parts on the same MIDI channel (Ch 1) but you can freely set the Receive Channel
From [MIXING]
Press [EDIT]
Press PART SELECT [1]
Press [F1] VOICE
Press [SF2] MODE
Set the Receive Channel for each Part as you desire.

All Parts set to Channel 1 will play whenever you select TRACK 1
Set the Part you want to play from the external controller to whatever channel you wish to use.

You can set as many Parts as you desire to a Channel.

Thanks a lot for your prompt answer.

I followed the steps above, but I had two issues, one I was able to fix, the second that remains.

My external keyboard transmits on channel 16. I have set a performance with an electric piano as part #1, and an organ as part #2.

After the steps above, I changed the part #2 to receive on channel 16 and I was able to play the organ with my external keyboard. But when playing with the external keyboard, I was also getting an acoustic piano sound, and to get rid of that I had to zero the volume of parts #3 to #16 (which are set by default to play the acoustic piano).

Now the issue that remains: I am not always able to hear the part #1 when I play on the MOXF8 keyboard. I have stored the song with the settings above. When I call the song again, the electric piano is not getting out. One way to have it play again I found is to go to Mixing then to the Vol/Pan screen. The part #1 is selected by default. With the arrow, I go to part #2 then back to part #1, then the electric piano sounds when I play the MOXF keyboard. But I loose that when I leave the song mode.

Thanks.

Since I have rebooted my MOXF8, I don't have the problem above anymore... 🙁

When you change to Song Mixing or Pattern Mixing - there are 16 Parts, each Part is assigned a Channel ... if your controller is transmitting on channel 16 there already is a Voice assigned to Part 16... you external controller will all Parts you decide to set the Receive Channel to 16. Again you can freely change the MIDI channel of any of the sixteen Parts.
