Hello everybody, I am making this post to raise a question that has been troubling me for a while. I have the MOX8 and Cubase AI8 running on windows.
The question is whether it is possible to perform all MOXF jobs (quantize, copy/erase event etc etc) via Cubase in real time. By this I mean, that when a change is made on Cubase the same change is automatically made on the song in MOX8.
Just a note: I know that if the Editor is set to "ONLINE" any change on the VST editor immediately takes place on the MOX8. However, this only holds for changes that do not alter the midi arrangement such as changing the voice of a channel, increasing or decreasing the volume of a channel etc etc. I will try to clearly explain what my question is with the following example:
To simplify matters, assume that we have a solo piano MOX song with one midi channel.
I am wondering whether the following is possible: 1) Take the moxf song and export it as a MIDI file into a USB stick. 2) Create a project on Cubase by importing the MIDI file.
3) Separate midi file into individual midi channels (i.e as in the MOX8). At this moment we have two physical MIDI sequences: the one on the hardware MOX8 and the one on Cubase. Both MIDI sequences are exactly the same at this point.
4) Apply some editing on the Cubase project (e.g change the pitch of a note from C to E). Is it possible that the moment this edit (pitch change) takes place on the Cubase project, the same change takes place on the MOX8? In other words, is it possible to synchronize any editing action between the MOX8 and Cubase in real time?
I know there is a standard way of doing this, by exporting the MOX song as MIDI file into a USB stick and create a project on Cubase by importing the MIDI file. After editing the MOX song (i.e the midi channels) on Cubase I can import the edited MIDI file on MOX. However, this takes a lot of time especially If you want to experiment since you have to import and export the file everytime you want to make a change.
There was another post in the forum, where a similar question was raised. The post was about the master/slave relationship between Cubase and the MOX8.
Under the assumption, that real time editing is possible, it seems logical that there is also an alternative way of transfering midi sequences of MOX song directly to Cubase without using a USB stick?
Thank you very much in advance.
Angelo
Short answer is, no. That’s not how ‘synchronization’ works.
Changes you make to the MIDI data in Cubase can be EXPORTED as a MIDI File (.mid)
That .mid File can be moved to a USB stick and loaded into the MOX8
Go to FILE > EXPORT > MIDI File
The opposite is also true, any Song or Pattern Section you Record in the MOX8 can be saved as a SMF (Standard MIDI File) .mid Files can literally be dragged and dropped into an empty Cubase Project where you can have Cubase automatically split the data to separate MIDI Tracks by Channel (Dissolve Parts)
.mid Files are the way you can move MIDI track data from one Sequencer to another.

Although written for the MOXF, you can apply this to your MOX8 with the MOX6/MOX8 Editor.:
