Hi, new MOXF user here. I have a 1GB Flash board loaded with my samples loaded already. I saved a backup file (without "With Sample" marked) and when I load the file I have "All System", "All Waveform" and "With Sample" marked, when the file is loaded I get: "Error Sample full", when I go to Voice mode and play the sounds everything looks and sounds good. Getting the error message is kind of confusing, is that normal? What are the correct steps to save and load my backup please? Thanks in advance.

Hi Leonardo,
Welcome to YamahaSynth!

When you create (Save) an “ALL“ data (.X6A) “with Samples“, you are creating a File that when loaded to a different MOXF - Say you rented one while on the road, you will be able to recreate your exact setup in a MOXF that is not your own.

If you travel with your FL1024M Flash board and your Files, you’re could LOAD your .X6A data to this rental; you would choose to load “with Waveforms” but ”without Samples” (because the Samples are already installed on your Flash Board)... no need to wait for them to install — saving you 20 minutes).

Waveforms are the smaller set of parameters that organize the Samples. To really clearly understand this whole thing — this difference between the Waveform and the Sample is key. Let’s take an acoustic piano made from custom Waveforms and Samples as an example: it might be made up of 3 Waveforms. A set of 90 samples struck soft, a set of 90 samples struck medium, and a third set of 90 samples struck hard. The 3 Waveforms simply organize the 270 individual Samples so you can access them in a Voice.
When you go to program a Voice using this piano data, you have Element 1 point to Waveform 0001 “S700 Soft St“, Element 2 point to Waveform 0002 “S700 Medium St” and Element 3 point to Waveform 0003 “S700 Hard St”... each covers the full range across the piano, but are set to sound at different Velocities.

You deal with the Waveform, the Waveform manages the audio data (samples). The Waveform data is tiny bits of data, meanwhile the audio samples can be megabytes in size. It is the Samples (the audio) that get written to the Flash Board. The Waveform data might be 1 or 2 kilobytes maximum (loads in less than a second), while the audio samples could be huge, the example S700 piano is something like 53 Megabytes of data!!! The ChickCorea Mark V is like 400 MB, etc...Could be a long wait time loading these...........

The current custom Waveform List in your MOXF can be viewed, at any time, by pressing [FILE] > [F6] FLASH > [SF2] DELETE — Here you can scroll through the current Waveform List. If this Waveform list is not present you cannot access any data on the Flash Board. Remember: it is these Waveforms that organize the audio samples... without your List, your Board is useless.

As long as your Waveform List is visible, 0001~2048, the Samples they organize can be accessed. This Waveform List holds the catalog of the audio samples installed on you Flash Board. It tells the Element where to look for the sound wave.

If you rented a MOXF that had an empty FL1024M already installed, you would simply Load your data “with Waveforms” (your catalog that is the key to your a Flash Board) and “with Samples“ to restore your exact MOXF setup to the rental unit. If the rental units FLASH BOARD has data on it, you may receive a Sample Memory Full error message as there will be no room for your data.

The reason you cannot load your file back into your own instrument is because you are out of sample memory. It is currently filled with *your* own data.

Loading a file will never, ever overwrite your Flash Board installed data. Never. The audio samples remain there until you DELETE them, or you FORMAT the Board..
You can overwrite the User Voices, Performances, Songs, Patterns, without touching the Flash Board Samples.
Your Waveform List is written into every File you make on your instrument that concerns sounds.

When you travel, typically you would take your File and your Flash Board. This allows you recreated *your* MOXF in a borrowed unit.
