can the new FM app be used with the Motif XF and, in effect, be able to access all the voices that are otherwise locked without having an MX?

Hi Angelo,
Welcome to YamahaSynth. No, the Yamaha "FM Essential" App is currently being used to introduce the new versions of the MX49/MX61 which are now iOS class compliant. Maybe at some future time - but currently you need a NEW MX49/MX61 to unlock the data... (it's called a promotion). 🙂
The app works and is a great way to learn about programming FM, particularly the oscilloscope -which can help visualize waveform shapes. Well worth having even without unlocking the additional presets!
