Hi All,
Newbie here. New to the MX series, but have owned MOX8 and a bunch of P-series Yamaha Pianos.
I need a new "bottom" keyboard and I'm thinking of the MX88. Great sounds (Mostly same as my MOX8) and great action.
I would use the MOX8, but the main board is toast and it can't be moved (changes sounds on it's own).
I have been trying to figure out how to change the Midi output channel on the MX to mate with my Roland VR-09, which needs to receive on channel 4. I have an MX49 so I've been experimenting with using that midi'd into the VR-09 and I can't get it to work properly.
Sweetwater told me to got to Utility, then MIDI, then Basic Channel and change it there to 4. That doesn't seem to do anything.
The PARTS of the MX are attached to their MIDI channels, so if I go to Part select, change it to part 4, then change it to Concert Piano, it will play the piano on the MX, and work fine with the VR-09, playing all the sounds. But when I save that to a Performance, it will only play some of the VR-09 sounds thru midi.
My Yamaha P85 can change the output channel to 4 easily, my MOX8 changes output simply thru the Utility button (Utility, MIDI, transmit channel).
Why is this so difficult on the MX???
Or am I missing something???
I'm all set to buy a new MX88 and want it for a New Years Eve gig. Please help!!! π JP
The MX88 is more difficult than the P85 because it is 16 Part Multi-timbral β the P85 was not.
The MIDI Transmit works like your MOX8 when in SONG MIXING or PATTERN MIXING Mode... (Iβm going to guess you never realized) you simply touch a PART SELECT button [1]-[16] to Transmit on that particular Channel.
Itβs that easy.
Thanx for replying,
I realize that when the part select button is in play, that I can get it to send in whatever channel I want, but if I do that and then save it to a performance, I totally lose that setting. Am I doing something wrong??
No. The Transmit Channel does not get stored to the Performance. It is NOT a Performance parameter.
So is there a way to just turn the MX on and have it transmitting on channel 4????
So I got up this morning, looked at my eBay feed and found a MOXF8 for $900 with a 30 day return. I snagged it right up.
Sorry to have bothered you all!!!! Thanx!!! JP
Moving up to the MOXF8 you get both a built-in Sequencer but a 4-Zone MASTER Mode that lets you Control and Store setups for MIDI Transmit.
