Hello. I have a question about a patch in strings: 074 tapestrings. It seems to me that it is some kind of mellotronish,by the way it cuts off after 7-8 seconds. Is There a way to turn that timelimiter off? Thank you for a very good forum.
It's not something you can turn on/off, much like the real thing "the tapes" run out. That is why it is named "Tapestrings" it is edited this way to emulate the magnetic tape playback of the mellotron, which had the same time limit. 🙂
In order to edit at the Element level on the MX series, it is necessary to use the Melas Editor.
If you have the MX VOICE EDITOR (part of the John Melas MX suite) you can change the AEG (Amplitude Envelope Generator) which responsible for time limit. In a typical string sound there is a sloped attack (to emulate bowing) and the level stays consistent until Key Off at which time there is sloped release.
In the MX TapeStrs sound "DECAY 2 LEVEL" equals 0 so the sound will die out before Key-Off occurs when the key is struck and held. You can see the steep cutoff in the envelope. So in spite of the fact you are holding a key when the envelope reaches DECAY 2 TIME, the Level is forced to 0.
