My boss recently inquired directly to Yamaha asking the forum issues:

Would you please ask Yamaha to provide a public statement about their intent to fix, and support, the synthesizer forums?

We first reported the forum issue (see below email) back in September and received a reply saying that a ‘new team’ was working on the issue.

Since then there has been no indication that any action has been taken to get the forums working.

Of more concern is that there have been no further posts/info from Blake Angelos. He used to be very proactive in responding to forum issues.

We know that personnel issues are sensitive but if Blake has passed on please give our condolences to his family. He will be missed.

Hopefully he has just moved on to another assignment.

The last anyone heard from Blake was several months ago on this Yamaha page: https://yamahasynth.com/learn/news/forum-update/

That page is still announcing that the forum is up and running when it isn’t so should either be removed or updated.

It is certainly Yamaha’s choice as to whether to have public forums and/or whether to publicly support them.

All we are asking is that Yamaha provide a current ‘statement of intent’ so that we can realign our expectations with reality.

We just received a reply from Blake himself (glad he's ok!)

We are trying to get the forum and the YamahaSynth site working better. There are reasons behind the issues with lots of moving parts, and I’m sorry that this is causing you so much grief. We are a small team working with a new process and appreciate your patience as we work to get this resolved. As soon as we have a bit more information, we will provide an update.

. . .

Lastly, this is Blake and last I checked, I’m not dead. I work in marketing, and right now, we have meetings happening on several fronts along with NAMM preparation. This is the primary reason I have not been super active in the forum along with vacation. Just wanted to let you know.

As some of you know it was this time last year when the forum was taken down to switch to a new platform. Right after the switch it yoyo'd up and down a few times like it was choking on a chicken bone and kept having minor problems for several months. Then about 3 months ago it began experiencing the problems it is currently having.

You may have noticed there was no actual ETA in the update so it isn't clear whether the issues are hardware related, software related or both. If you have been keeping your fingers crossed waiting for a fix you may want to uncross them and soak them 4 times daily in warm Epsom Salts to help with any Carpal Tunnel that may be developing that could affect your keyboard playing!

The broken forum has a numbing impact all around.

Since the forum seemed to be and probably still is outsourced, Yamaha doesn't appear to be completely in control of the timeline.

I still advocate for lobbing on to the existing Dorico/Steinberg forums since they seem to be working OK.  There may the be political or marketing reasons to silo Yamaha Synths, but outside of having a proven stable platform there are other synergies around having the DAW that comes with Yamaha Synths in the box to be a forum category away.  And with the emergence of the ESP "VST" - it makes sense to have this carrot dangling on the software side of the fence for possible defectors (from pure software to the hybrid Montage M story).

Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R
