I was thinking about buying a Yamaha Reface CS for myself as a Christmas gift, I just have a question regarding connecting the CS to a computer/laptop.
I want to be able to record audio (not MIDI) from the CS into the computer - for example, in Sony Vegas or Audacity. I've heard I need an external audio interface to accomplish this. My question is - what audio interface and/or extra cables do I need in order to do this? I've never owned a synthesizer before so all this is very new to me. Recommendations would be great.
Audio interfaces come in many sizes and shapes. It's job is to take incoming audio signals, convert and route that signal digitally to your computer and to take digital audio from the computer and route it out analog to your monitor speakers (or headphones).
Base you purchase on how many things (simultaneously) and what type of things you want to record.
Here are some example USB audio interfaces:

Thank you for your prompt answer.
Would a Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD work?
I only ask now because I don't want to buy something that is incompatible and have to refund it :p
Sorry I'm not familiar with the Behringer U-Phoria UMC204HD
I listed some some audio interfaces that I know will work, you should ask your retail store outlet - they maybe able to tell you about the Behringer unit.
Ask me about Yamaha or Steinberg products, I can help you. I know their pedigree and I know that they are going to work. They might cost a bit more but then again it is your music! I always tell musicians don't let a few coins limit the amount of FUN you are going to have!
