I have been unable to find a way to control my Reface units using my midi capable PRS 540. The PRS manual does not appear to include the option of using it this way but my understanding with the Reface line was that they could be controlled by any midi capable keyboard.
What am I missing here? The only video I can find for connections to another keyboard is the 4 minute Doctor Mix one which makes it appear to be just a matter of properly connecting the cables.
It is simply a matter of properly connecting the cables. OUT to IN
OUT of the controller, IN to the reface.
Of course, the details that are not mentioned is you have to ensure your PSR (it is not a Paul Reed Smith) it is a PortaSoundRegular size keys... PSR... make sure it is set to send MIDI. If I can remember back to the 20th Century there was a switch on the back for connecting to various devices, make sure the switch is over to "MIDI"
On your reface make sure you have MIDI CONTROL set to ON.
You don't mention any of this - see page 41-42 of the reface Owner's Manual for KEYBOARD SETTING... MIDI CONTROL = power on while holding E2
Certainly not a Paul Reed Smith :p
reface MIDI Control was ON. I appreciate your response.
Perhaps I have an improper midi cable, was sold one that also has a USB connection but was assured it would work for the purpose I outlined.
Peace.
No, no, no it will not. You need a 5-pin MIDI to 5-pin MIDI cable.
USB is typically for connect to computer.
Great, thanks for your help.
