Playing from moxf8 into GarageBand iPad

Using I connect from midi in/out and plugged into iPad for GarageBand. Nothing happening on the iPad end of things. Not sure if need to select something on the panel of Yamaha or otherwise how to correct. Any thoughtts? Do I need to run from USB into iPad?
