Hello everybody,

I'm desperate and need help!

I want to adjust the master tune of my Reface CS. For this you probably need the update 1.30. Now I have the following problem: After connecting the Reface CS to my MacBook Air (mac os 10.13.4) I can start and execute the instatllation, but the update does not seem to run on the reface because I still have the overall feeling can not adapt! HELP!
Cheers from Freiburg, Germany!

Please try the following to determine if your CS is updated or not. The only way to verify if the product is updated is to query the product: Here's how:

While holding down the D#2 key, press the [O] (Standby/On) switch. (that is the lowest D# on the reface).
Confirm:
If the LOOPER slider’s REC lamp lights up or flashes, your reface already has firmware version 1.30 or later and does
not need to be updated. Therefore, you do not need to use this updater.

Does your REC lamp light up when you do the above procedure?

Same question (hopefully you’ll reply) when you power on holding the lowest D# what, if anything, happens?

tried what you suggested, pressing D# and turning on: the top 2 lights turn on on the oscillator section

According to the documentation this indicates you have the Looper set to 16th note Quantize.

Make sure your refaceCS is able to send/receive MIDI via that connection (doing something other than the update routine)... if you can test it with a Sequencer or something.

Hi! I connected the cs to a beatstep pro ( the cs receives signal via midi in). The cs receives the signal however it seems it gets too many signals. Instead of receiving the signal from one midi channel only, it receives any signal sent from the device and there is no way I can prevent this (omni on if I'm not mistaken).

I’m going to guess that the question here is: how to set the MIDI Receive Channel on a refaceCS?

While holding down the A3, C#4, and E4 keys, set the (Standby/On) switch to On.
This activates Advanced Settings mode

In this mode, all of the OSC [TYPE] lamps light up, and you can change parameters by using the keyboard.

Hold down D#2 (lowest D# on the board)
You set the MIDI Receive Channel by touching the appropriate Key.
C3 = All
C#3 = 1
D3 = 2
D#3 = 3
Etc.

This setting remains your setting until you reset or change it manually.

See page 9 of the Supplementary Manual for version 1.3

Hi! You guess right: my goal is to set the midi in/out according to my needs.
I tried what you suggested. If I turn on the cs keeping pressed the keys you have mentioned nothing really happens. The cs plays as when you just turn it on.

Update your firmware to version 1.30

Available reface Downloads
If you are experiencing difficulty with the firmware update, I recommend you call your local Yamaha office... the folks at Customer Support should be able to talk you through it.

- pressing the 3 Chrod shortcut

Sven,
It may seem trivial to you, but it is not. This is a working firmware update. In order for us (here) to help you must provide information.
_ You have a Mac with Mojave — that is helpful, we can research for you others who have taken the step to update their computer before compatibility has been tested. So this is a possible cause.
_ “latest” Yamaha Driver — is meaningless, I’m not certain about exactly how many keyboards Yamaha makes, but it’s a lot. They do not all use the same driver. So here the name and version number is critical. If you don’t know: go to System Preferences and find the Yamaha icon, click on it and find the version number. Very important. The “latest” tells us nothing, as the “latest” may not even concern your particular instrument.
_ please check that your Mac can send MIDI info to the reface... if you have any Sequencer app, test the MIDI communication between the two items... can you receive info from reface when you play the keys? In other words, test the MIDI COMMUNICATION

Let us know

Hi, thanks for the quick answer.
The driver I’ve installed is: 1.32.
I’ve even deinstalled this driver an reinstall. No success.

The normal midi connection works fine, even Soundmondo. I can send and receive midi over cable and USB.
But, only the update connection seems to be not working.

Please <Help! 🙁

The driver I’ve installed is: 1.32.

Please install the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver 1.3.2-2 (there is no such Driver as 1.32)

Since Soundmondo works... and you can both send and receive via USB, you can conclude that the driver 1.3.2-2 is installed properly. Please stop uninstalling and reinstalling the driver... (it only adds to your frustration and rarely fixes anything). If you have USB-MIDI working then that is not causing the issue with your Updater (apparently, you have probably installed the right driver. Attention to the details is often very important when updating your product).

If you are worried about the driver installation: go to System Preferences > Click on the purple Yamaha USB-MIDI icon and view the version that is properly installed (it should report 1.3.2) Once communication is working - it is working. We can therefore, conclude your issue lies elsewhere.

Can you recount the (exact) steps you are taking when attempting the update?
Write them down as you do them - it often prevents you from missing a step...

Let us know...

Iam not stupid. I am a software developer, so you can skip advises for beginners, ok?

I cannot get the Version 1.3.2-2 in the system pref. settings, it seems to be a problem with desinstalling the old usb driver!
please tell me exactly, how!

it males no sense, to repeat everything, that you wrote before and what i can read in the installation manual.
