Hello, please excuse my ignorance I am new to hardware synths. I recently obtained a DX27 and have been having a blast programming voices. However, I'd really like to use my midi controller (which is a akai mpk 49) to control the synth in order to use the arp from the controller and to play phrases so i can edit parameters on the synths while the keys are played by the controller. I really don't know if this is possible as ive never used midi before. If anybody knows how to get the DX27 to work with a controller I would greatly appreciate any tips.
There is nothing you need to do on the DX27 beyond plug a MIDI cable into the MIDI IN jack. The DX27 is set to receive MIDI when you power it On. You can set a MIDI Receive Channel (default is 1).
All settings you need to make are on your controller device.
any idea how to control voice parameters with a midi controller? can you program a uc-33 for instance and then use the CC commands to control things like oscillator frequency ratio, the envelope generator, etc? Using the interface in the dx27 is a nightmare so would be amazing if i could just assign everything to control knobs
Hi Jack,
What’s a “uc-33”?
And no, the DX27 is circa “last century” FM... That kind of real-time parameter control just didn’t exist back then within the FM engine.

Here is an old review: Sound on Sound jan.2004

Well, the DX27 does (more or less) support real-time parameter control using SysEx. But I think you could not hear changes while holding notes if I remember correctly. And to make things worse, the UC-33 review states:
However, it's not possible to program your own SyEx strings for detailed editing of synths
BTW: You can do realtime control using CC messages on the Reface DX

Yes refaceDX is circa “this century” FM!
