F3 organ...some drawbar tones change above C5

I was programing a Live Set for "Pump It Up" using the F3 organ and a noticed that the drawbars that play the harsher triangle wave tones suddenly become a mellower tone above C5...not quite a sine wave like the F1 organ but definitely something with dramatically fewer overtones. It's particularly noticeable with the lowest two drawbars. Was this done intentionally or is this a programming oversight? None of the H or the F1 and F2 organs do this. Bad Mister? Thx...

Just checked it out and can definitely hear what you mean. I wonder if it has something to do with the "playable" range of the drawbars? I noticed in the H organs that certain drawbars stop playing either too low or too high (to the point of lower octaves just repeating the same pitches as the octave above), which I assumed was a way of trying to emulate the limitations of the actual B3.

Hi Jim,

I have found this exact issue with the F3 organ when crossing C5. If playing a prominent passage in that range, it makes the F3 unusable, and I sometimes MIDI into a Reface YC as a workaround.

I have very few complaints about this keyboard, but this would be near top of my list of issues to fix.

Adrian...I remember your post now. I was away from my YC for a few months so I couldn't check it out then and it escaped me when I posted about this. I also remember Bad Mister's response now... I hope he can give us a little more actual information on this rather than trying to deflect the discussion to one of mathematics and harmonics...this particular issue clearly has nothing to do with that.

Clark...on the H organs...yes...the lower tones repeat to replicate the "foldback" from real Hammond organs. The F organs are created with FM synthesis so there's no such limitation. If you flip a switch on a real Farfisa, it gives you a consistent timbre across the entire keyboard as the tone is generated by transistors and is not limited by tone wheel logistics like the Hammonds. The question is did Yamaha choose to do this with the F3 or did this just get missed in vetting the FM programming.

Early on, I posted on IdeaScale about some other issues I had with the F organs. Hoping they make some changes/clarifications in the next OS update.

All strange since the FM engine shouldn't have any limitations as you mention and Yamaha is the "master" of FM. Yamaha censored and cancelled me on another post so they might on this one as well. I might have written 2 letters "B" and "S" which isn't a curse word or they could have substituted the word crap. Instead they deleted a lengthy reply. It's silly as we aren't kids here. Those letters are what we use to point out that someone is grossly embellishing their claim or argument. It's not a dirty word or should I say dirty letters.
