It's a nuisance during two handed playing, to have to manually select a different scene. Is there any way to advance the scene by using a footswitch?

Yes. You can get a programmable Foot Switch -- one that has multiple switches that can be programmed to send the specific CC numbers you need to change Scenes.

You can program a Yamaha MFC10 (MIDI Foot Controller) to do the job:

Default is CC92 is set to do SCENE change as follows:
CC92 value 0-15 = Scene 1
CC92 value 16-31 = Scene 2
CC92 value 32-47 = Scene 3
CC92 value 48-63 = Scene 4
CC92 value 64-79 = Scene 5
CC92 value 80-95 = Scene 6
CC92 value 96-111 = Scene 7
CC92 value 112-128 = Scene 8

So a CC92 programmed to Foot Switch 1 value 0 will select SCENE 1
A CC92 programmed to Foot Switch 2 value of 16 will select SCENE 2
and so on...

There is, if you are willing to route the foot switch through some programmable helper device. This can be a computer running some software (I'd use Loomer Architect if I'd want to achieve what you're saying, there are other options as well) or a pedal like a MOD Device (expensive).

So its a nuisance, but not that much of a nuisance. (lol) Obviously, the MFC10 can do a lot more than just provide 10 programmable Foot Switches...

What you are attempting to change via the SCENE buttons - are you using them as Performance Scenes or as Pattern Scenes? In other words, is the Sequencer involved or are you just changing which sound your playing (or both). I ask because there is usually more than one way to accomplish a goal - if it is stated.

For example, if you are using the SCENE buttons to change which PART or PARTs are currently KBD CTRL active, there are several ways to transition from one sound to another using the SuperKnob/FC7 feature.

You could DIY a MIDI microprocessor project and program the firmware yourself. For an investment of $43USD + Shipping/Tax + chosen investment for button(s) + case - you could realize a device that does what you want. $43 is an Arduino and MIDI Shield board. This is probably the easiest "off the shelf" DIY at the lowest cost. All in would be less than $100.

Behringer has a $150 MIDI pedal you could use if you don't want to go through the development yourself.

At one point the "MIDI Commander" (under a few different names depending on rebranding) was a cheaper alternative. Someone has custom firmware to extend the capabilities that help make it work for this application. Right now it's the same price as the Behringer.

You may be able to get by cheaper on the used market.
