Cubase Pro 9 was released this week and for Yamaha synthesizer owners wanting to upgrade we have some good news for you. Many of our current software components have been tested and work fine. Ones that do not should be updated within the next week or two. In the chart below, components that are currently compatible are listed in black. Ones that will be updated shortly are listed in red:
Cubase AI 9 is out as well.
I didn't need Cubase AI for anything and only installed it, unregistered / unlicensed in a trial period in order to help others with Cubase related things.
Seems like even non-registration "locked me in" to Cubase AI 8 as I see no upgrade path the Cubase AI 9 - even without ever using any non-trial version of cubase AI. Cubase AI is not considered a full version and therefore has no grace period.
I'm kicking myself for helping as I believe the download code, if never used, would now resolve to Cubase 9 AI instead of Cubase 8 AI.
Not a huge deal - since any line in the sand is going to freeze in time and there's always new stuff coming around the corner - so at some point you understand the limitations imposed by the licensing scheme.
Hopefully this doesn't impede Yamaha's competitive advantage as there is an open door for other manufacturers to gain a marketing bullet "purchase of keyboard includes no-cost major/minor revision software updates for bundled software" and "purchase of keyboard includes no-cost software to take advantage of software-assist features" (an example for the Montage of this would be a waveform editor).
Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R
Thank you Blake, i will update from 8.5 to 9 tomorrow 😉
