My CP4 will arrive this afternoon. Here is a quote from from Page 44 of the CP4 Owner’s Manual:

Using with a Computer
Although your stage piano is exceptionally powerful and versatile all by itself, connecting it to a computer allows for even greater convenience and flexibility. For example, when connected in this way, you can integrate the instrument with DAW applications and other music creation software.
NOTE DAW is an abbreviation of digital audio workstation, and DAW applications such as Cubase, Logic, SONAR, and Digital Performer can be used to record, edit, and mix audio on a computer.
Some of the options available to you with your stage piano connected to a computer are as follows:
• Use the instrument as an external sound source and/or MIDI keyboard for a DAW application.

• Use an audio interface or the like to record yourself playing the stage piano in audio format on a DAW application.
• Record yourself playing the stage piano in MIDI format on a DAW application.

But there is no explanation on how to set up recording audio from the CP4 to a computer/DAW using a USB cable/connection. MIDI connection is explained, and I understand how to use MIDI, but what do I do to record audio to the computer/DAW played on the CP4 via a USB cable?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to Yamaha Synth!

But there is no explanation on how to set up recording audio from the CP4 to a computer/DAW using a USB cable/connection. MIDI connection is explained, and I understand how to use MIDI, but what do I do to record audio to the computer/DAW played on the CP4 via a USB cable?

Sorry, but you read something into what is explained that is not there. The CP4 Stage does not send audio through the USB "To Host" port. What you missed is the second to the last bullet point (today's word: penultimate):

• Use an audio interface or the like to record yourself playing the stage piano in audio format on a DAW application.

Example Audio Interfaces and "the like..."
You can use any audio interface, from the small desktop kind (Yamaha AudioGram3, AudioGram6, or the Steinberg UR22, UR44), rack mount project studio multi-I/O types (Steinberg UR824) to the digital console type (Yamaha 01V96i). Any of these external (audio interface) devices can be used to record audio to your favorite DAW.

You can, as you know, connect the CP4 Stage to the computer and use it for MIDI (as a controller and tone generator)... that all takes place through the Yamaha USB-MIDI Driver (downloadable at the www.download.yamaha.com site). USB for the CP4 Stage is MIDI only.

EXTRA CREDIT
The CP4 Stage can record audio to a USB drive via the "TO DEVICE" port. In this case it is documenting your performance in real time by creating a .WAV file (stereo 16-bit/44.1kHz) - This file can be streamed (played back on the CP4 Stage) from the USB stick or you can manually shuttle the drive over to your computer and drop the .WAV into your DAW project. But there is no real time transfer of audio from the CP4 Stage to the computer without an external Audio Interface.

Hope that helps.

Thanks Bad Mister for your response and advice. After I submitted the post I re-read the quote and realized that audio was probably not sent via USB Midi, but I did not withdraw it as I hoped maybe there was a way. Not a problem since I have an audio interface. Possibly a suggestion for further improvements.

Thanks again.
