Looping custom samples / wave files

Hi all! I have some nice custom made wave files that can perfectly loop. Now I want to import them as new wave files into the montage and trigger them from the keyboard. It all works fine, using a init drum part, or init awm. but it looks like each time the sample stops after one run. How can I tell the Montage to loop the wave file?

When you say that the samples loop perfectly where did you hear this happening? When you have imported your wav file is it just one cycle of your "loop"? If that's the case then the Montage will only play this one cycle as that is all the audio that exists in the wav file and it won't repeat or loop without intervention from yourself.

One option might be though:

If you have had the wav file looping elsewhere presumably there is a tempo attached to it - I'm assuming it's a musical phrase and not a sound effect. If this is the case you could record a song where the only information is the key press that triggers the sample at the start of each bar where you want your sample to loop with the song tempo set to the tempo of your sample. You do this for as often as you want your sample to loop - if you don't know that in advance then record more than you might need as you can stop playback of the song easily at the point where you want the last loop to occur.

Hope this helps

There are only "perfect loops" - if it is not perfect, it ain't looping, it's limping ๐Ÿ™‚
The .wav file can contain the information on whether it loops or plays as a one shot. There are what are referred to as "cue points"... These can include the Start Point, the End Point and the Loop Point. When the Loop Point = the Start Point, the full audio wave will loop when it is imported to the synth.
If the Loop Point = the End Point, however, the wave will play as a one shot. If the Loop Point is some where in-between the Start and End, you will have defined the audio to play from Start to End but then to return to the Loop point and repeat to End again and again.

You can determine where these Cue Point are when you create the .wav. Preparation of the .wav must take place prior to loading it into Montage. The Montage will simply read the cue points and play it back accordingly.

Hi, Phil
What software would you recommend for looping audio files on a Mac? I assume the OP imported his audio files without setting any loop points prior into the Montage and looks for answers how to do this.

Thanks.

@Bad Mister: Having read a few of your responses I now know that you really like to be very precise in the words you choose.....! Maybe a bit too much? :p
But hey, I guess I can't complain cause your suggestion was exactly the right one for me! I've tried it and found a way to set the loop parameters (start / end points) in my audio editor. Re-imported them into the montage and voila, it worked! So, thanks a lot for your help!

Sorry for the bad joke. It's just one of those repetitively redundant expressions we musicians use to describe something we wish to emphasize as accurate or when desirable. Similar, to describing a "full 88 key" piano action... A "full piano", or "88key piano" action would be enough, but for emphasis, we wind up saying "a full 88 key piano action". Just an observation of something that comes up again and again when listening to customer requests. So a "perfect loop" is a repetitively redundant musician's phrase for a really, really accurate audio clip ready to use in cycle mode. If you're using it as a loop, we can assume it's perfect. It's all good.

Glad the non-joke part of my reply helped.

Hello folks,
Since I found this thread already, I'd like to address my issue.
I'm making a lot of custom patches in different formats. I did a multi-sample (.x3v) patches, imported them into Montage, and I got clicks on the loop points, although I took extreme care of choosing the perfect loop points & crossfading them. Tested the patches in different tools like Ableton Live, PSR-S970 and even Korg Pa3X, there's no clicks at all. They just occurs in Montage.

Interestingly, the old looped instrumental samples I did years ago for my Motif ES, they work just fine in Montage!

I got other members with the same issue, so thought it's better to discuss it.

Thanks

I've the same problem: when you load a Waveform o import a .x3W file, THE SAME FILE sometimes is loaded producing clicks, sometimes is loaded playing without clicks. I use a USB key "certified" from yamaha site. ๐Ÿ˜ฎ

ON another note - I am wondering why they audio player under recorder doesnt have a loop playback (the midi does now)

forget loop playback, itยดs irrelevant. we need LOOP RECORD! recording should take place repeatedly over a specified area, according to loop point settings. wake up, yamaha! btw, whereยดs bad mister?

Hi people, I have tryed to import sample with loop information inside but the montage dont play the loop, only single cicle...the wav play looped on soundforge and with EndlessWAV program.

thank you

I'm not familiar with the loop protocol in either of the programs you mention. Currently, there is no specific Waveform Editor for Montage. But it is compatible with Waveform data created for the Motif XS/XF series and the MOXF series synthesizers. Therefore the current Motif Waveform Editor from third party programmer John Melas can make Motif XF compatible Waveforms which are compatible with Montage.

There is no facility to either sample or edit (loop) .wav data in Montage - it is not a sampler. It is able to load prepared Waveforms in Motif XS/XF format

That is the current situation.

Please update the OS to make a Montage become a Sampler ????

Thanks

Or add a simple waveform editor, i need only to edit samples start/end, loop points, activate the loop mode or one shot mode
