(noob) EG depth slider question

Hello,
I'll start off by saying the Reface CS is my first hardware synth, so please excuse me if my question is dumb.

I have a hard time understanding how the EG depth slider works, even after reading manuals.
What I don't understand is why I can hear sound if the Depth is exactly in the middle between AEG and FEG and all the ADSR are at 0. The sound even gets louder if it is at 1/4. The filter cutoff slider is at its max.
If I move the EG depth to 0 (AEG) or to 1 (FEG) then only the clicking remains.

To my understanding, if all ADSR sliders are set to 0, I should hear no sound or just a click sound (my case is the latter) and I really don't understand why adding depth to the FEG and reducing it from the AEG should somehow.

Thank you!

Your understanding of the ADSR (Envelope) is correct. But it can depend on the position of the Cutoff, and more importantly the Resonance. When Resonance reaches extremely high levels it can cause self-oscillating... creating its own howling tone. So even if the ADSR are all at minimum, the RESONANCE if raised can cause the "howling" of a sine wave... as the filter resonance creates a tone.
