Hello Montage Gurus,

I am new to the forum and this is my first post. Hence, my apologies in advance in case I am asking this question in a wrong place or in case it has been discussed before in some other thread.

I just got my new Montage and I am enjoying every moment with it. However, coming from the CVP world into the Synth (I am building up my personal studio and I predominantly work on Cinema music and world fusion), I agree that I have a steep learning curve ahead. My question is - how do I trigger/invoke the articulations (e.g., guitar slides, legato, string noise, sax breathing noise) as I play the keyboard? As in the PSR/Genos - these are already programmed with the velocity and certain playing style (SA1 and SA2 voices, Mega Voices, etc.). When I listen to the "Audition" of the voices, I see the articulations are in place. What I am unable to figure out - how do I get them in action when I am playing the keyboard? Is it through expression pedal? Foot switch? Any other onboard switches? OR is it possible to program it so these articulations "happen" as I play the keyboard?

Sorry for my noobish language. Hope my question makes some sense.

Thank you in advance for your guidance.

Best,
SD

Hi SHIBAJI,
Welcome to Yamaha Synth!

It varies by each program. XA CONTROL (Expanded Articulation) allows several different methods of determining the behavior of an AWM2 Element within a Part. For example, an Element can be set to sound using Note Limit and Velocity Limit ranges, but XA CONTROL adds additional conditions: Assign Switch 1/2 condition — an Element will only sound when specific conditions are met.

On any AWM2 (sample based) Normal instrument, you can view “All” Elements and the conditions under which they each will sound.
Select the Part > EDIT > touch “All” along the bottom of the screen... “Osc” (Oscillators)

You can read more about XA CONTROL here: MONTAGifying Motif XF: Tenor to the Max

Here’s an example of how to customize articulations to your playing style...

@ Bad Mister, Sorry for my late reply, for some reason the forum page would log me out even before I could post anything. Firstly, I am so excited to see a reply from you! And then the videos you suggested are exactly the ones I was looking for. I also have bookmarked the entire YouTube playlist. Thank you!

Best wishes!
Shiv
