Hello, We have many songs that have DX7s sounds that we need to have/use for live and recording. Do you have any suggestions for loading LA Standard into our DX7s?
We have tried Getting the sounds from my PC to DX7s through MidiOx and have had no luck in getting a through signal. Please help us get our ound back, Jamie and Jeff from Lebish and Grinnell Band. Listen to what we need at http://www.lebishgrinnellmusic.com/
Thank you, Jamie Lebish

If you have tried to use MIDI-Ox, then are we to assume you have solved the first issue: Getting MIDI from MIDI-Ox to the 5-pin MIDI In of the DX7s?
If yes, please confirm.

When the DX7S is going to Receive a System Exclusive Bulk Dump, “Exclusive” must be On, the DEVICE NUMBER should be set to “All”, and the RECEIVE BLOCK needs to be set to 1-32 or 33-64. This allows you target each set of 32 Voices to INTERNAL slots 1-32 or 33-64 respectively. These parameters are found in the DX7s

Each syx file should contain 32 Voices.

It’s been 30 years but I don’t remember much changing other than the names of the Voices... like if you are expecting a received message or acknowledgement, I’m not sure there were any back then. So take a look at the first Voice and/or the thirty-third Voice to see if new Voices were received... depending on your specified RECEIVE BLOCK.

You also might want to describe exactly how you Setup to export the data from MIDI-Ox... it is the right tool, so if you can describe what you are doing perhaps that might help us figure what you are missing.

Hello,
We have tried to connect the USB interface to the PC from the DX7s. We get as far as Midiox recognizing the DX7s but we do not have through connection back to the DX7s.

I am truly inept at higher tech software like Midiox. I am kind of flying blind, but I know that the DX7s is recognized in Midiox , but no signal path back to the DX7s.
Is there a step By step method available (Video) written directions? Or even a way to put in the parameters manually?

I have the LA Standard Sysex files on my computer in DropBox and can pull it up in Midiox. I can pull up the box with parameters but can go no further. I have asked many different Keyboard experts, (that have step by step YouTube videos), and have followed thier directions but am not sure if our digital to analog USB interface from Computer to DX7s is working properly either. Can you suggest an interface that is widely used on PC's? We have the Yamaha USB connector bought for 39.00

We would pay for an original cartridge of LA Standard, if there are any in existence? Please help?

Here is our web site http://www.lebishgrinnellmusic.com/
All of our songs have a DX7 on them, and cannot recreate our unique sounds that are integral for live performance. We love the Yamaha DX7s that we bought 2 years ago (there is nothing like it anywhere) and our old Brownie is long time gone. Please help? I think it is fair to say that The Yamaha DX7 changed and helped us shape our original sound in a band context.

What USB-MIDI interface are you using? I couldn't get SYSEX dumps to work with my DX7IID either with a cheap USBMIDI "cable" (if you know what I mean - an interface that is just a lump within the cable itself and powered by USB bus power). I had to get an oscilloscope out in the end to see what was happening and it turned out that the cheap cable just didn't have enough drive power on the MIDI side of things to handle fast SYSEX dumps - it was fine with slow note one / note off data.

I just ended up moving things around in my "studio" so I could use my proper powered interface and then it was fine.

If it is working, the DX7S should give a message on its display even if you try a dump and, e.g., the device number isn't correct it will say on the display "Device Number Mismatch - Bulk Rejected" or something like that.

One other thing you need to do that Bad Mister didn't mention is to turn write protect off - there's a handy list of functions on the front of the DX7S itself that tells you where to access this and turn it off. The manual isn't very useful in that regard - the info on the DX7S itself is more useful!

But again, if you try to do a dump with Write Protect on the DX7S will tell you!
