Any way to further modify the Pads?

Long time CP50 and CP40 user; just got CP73. Love it except for the pad selections. Too bright, and I cant see any way to access a filter or resonance. Tried the Advance tool, running the mellow pad through other effects - but then I cant adjust the attack. Sigh.

Any ideas?

Log in on the Soundmondo site. There you will find programs from other end users and Yamaha specialists, and you may pick up an idea or two about programming sounds on your new CP73. If all you know is to look for a Filter (perhaps you always “think Synthesizer” when it comes to editing...) and while “too bright” is a complaint certainly solvable by a Filter, an equalizer is a device that combines filters and amplifiers. “Too bright” could also be a function of your sound system (but that’s a different thing)...

On the CP73/CP88 you have a rather unique EQ per Section, labeled simply “Tone” control — this is a one-Knob EQ designed to change multiple ranges simultaneously guaranteeing a musically useful response throughout its travel minimum to maximum. Technically speaking, it is far more complex than it seems... in this type of product this setting is very much done “by ear”. As you work with it you will be struck by how it is clearly not just a linear increase/decrease response, multiple ranges are changing, simultaneously, along a specific curve. (It is worth listening to how it changes the target sound throughout the range of the Knob. I mention this because if you’re using one of these new “one-Knob” controls for the first time, you not expect to encounter this non-linear response. It’s easy to assume its going to be linear.

On this product, access to the Part EQ has been greatly simplified versus the previous CP models where the extremely musical EQs were laid out like a science project. What they’ve done is give you range of EQ configurations that all work... eliminating the extreme detail per range... but applying a range of change that will always work, you decide among a range of guaranteed to work response Curves.

Try Soundmondo; Compare your results with others... it can be eye opening (and good for your ears too).
