I have a CP4 stage and an FC7 volume pedal. Whenever I switch sounds on the keyboard with the FC7 connected it resets the volume to MAX volume. I have to adjust the foot pedal up or down to reset the volume.
Is there a way to fix this or is the FC7 incompatible with the CP4?
Thanks!
If the FC7 is set to Expression cc011, indeed, it resets to maximum... but that maximum is set by the Performance’s stored setting... under PLAY MODE > Volume... The value stored here allows you to balance the Performances one to another. Expression cc011 is used by default precisely because it resets to maximum. The Play Mode “Volume” is cc007. Expression works within the value set for cc007.
So if you deem a particular Performance never needs to exceed a PLAY MODE > Volume of 110, you can reset assured the toe down position of your FC7 sending Expression will never exceed the equivalent of 110.
If the next Performance needs a Play Mode > Volume of 124 to match the previous, The toe down position of the Expression pedal will be the equivalent of 124.
The purpose of storing data in Performances is so things like relative volumes between setups can be worked out ahead of time. This extends to the Master Keyboard functions with each Performance so that external devices can be balanced, as well.
So, if I understand you correctly, there isn't a global parameter that I could set so that the volume of any sound I select will be wherever I have the pedal set at the time. For example, if I have the pedal all the way down to zero and I select a different sound, I want the volume of the selected sound to be at 0 until I bring the volume up on the pedal. I don't want it to be at max volume. Is this not possible?
The CP4 Stage does not have CONTROLLER RESET/HOLD. To do what you are requesting you would need to get a stereo VOLUME Pedal and place it on the AUDIO OUTPUTS of the CP4 Stage.
By the way, it's the same thing with the Part volume/chorus/reverb sliders on the unit itself. When you switch Performances, the Part volume/chorus/reverb settings are set by what's programmed into the Performance, regardless of the position that the sliders happen to be in when you switch. Only when you operate the sliders do they override those settings.
This is unlike the Master Volume control on the unit, which actually controls the CP4's output, regardless of Performance. But Master Volume can't be assigned to FC7.
On my CP4, I want to control the volume of the Layer part (strings) with a foot controller and have the Main part (ac pno) UNaffected by the foot controller. I tried enabling FC1 for volume on the layer part and disabling it on the Main part. I also tried disabling the CC on the Main part in receive switch screen but this disabled the sustain pedal for the Main (piano) part. Any ideas?
Thanks!
Dan,
UTILITY > CONTROLLER > FC1: set to 04[FootCtrl]
EDIT > PART (Main) > CONTROLLER > FC1: set to off
EDIT > PART (Layer) > CONROLLER > FC1: set to volume
