How can I toggle parts in a performance using only pedals like Bruno Zuccheti does in his incredible video?
I’d like to have the main voice be a piano, then introduce a split with organ for my right hand, switching the entire keyboard to an electric piano for a part of the song.
I am new to CP4, but it seems this should be doable all within 1 performance.
For context, I’m seeking to play the keyboard parts in “Let It Be”.
Thanks!
Within a Performance you can have only three Parts ... Split, Layer, and Main ... and only one Voice assigned to each Part. You can't switch a Part from one Voice to another Voice within a Performance using a foot switch. Of course, you can assign foot controllers (Yamaha FC7) to different Parts, e.g., Main and Layer, and alternate between them by turning the volume up on one and down on another (which Bruno M does extensively in the video). But you can't change the Voice assigned to any of the Parts using a foot switch.
What you can do, though, is create sequentially-numbered Performances and move up or down through them using a foot switch, which Bruno also does in the video. So you might create Performances called "Let It Be 1", "Let It Be 2", etc., for your different configurations, and assign them to sequential Performance slots.
Thanks!
Is it possible to toggle a split using the foot switch?
I’m thinking of using the three parts for my three voices (piano, organ, electric piano). I would set piano as main, organ as split and electric piano as layer. I would use the foot switch to toggle the split on and off (when split is on I’d have the organ sound for my right hand) and the 2 FC7’s to modulate the volume of piano versus electric piano. Alternatively I read somewhere that 1 FC7 can have volume for 2 parts, modulating them in opposite directions (when piano is at 100%, e-piano is at 0%).
Is this doable? Can the split be set so that the main voice is for the left hand and the split voice is for the right?
Am I right about using 1 FC7 to inversely modulate the volume of main and layer parts?
Thanks!

I used to be quite sure you could do this, and it would definitely be a handy feature, but now I don't think so ... never found a setting that would allow it.

I don't think so. Under EDIT > PART > CONTROLLER > FC1, there's no setting for Volume + and Volume - (as there is for Eff + or Eff -), just Volume. So if you choose Volume, it will always be in one direction.

No, the Voice for the Split Part is always to the left side of the split point.
P.S. As I've mentioned in other threads, some folks have successfully gotten around some of the Part limitations of the CP4 by using it as a MIDI "self-controller" ... i.e., patch the MIDI Out to the MIDI In, turn off local control, set up Zones, and control the tone generators that way.
I found a very workable solution.
Performance:
- MAIN: Organ, FC1 - volume, do not receive FC3 sustain
- SPLIT: Piano (split set to D an octave above middle C), receive FC3 sustain
- Layer: Reed piano, FC2 - volume, receive FC3 sustain
I have the full range of piano on the left to play the song as written.
For the descending 3rds, raise reed piano volume, lower organ volume.
For the organ solo, raise organ volume, lower reed piano volume.
It’s not perfect. There are some bass lines I’m playing with piano that “should have” been either organ or reed piano and, I don’t have a brass patch for the middle of the song. Never the less, I’m happy.
THIS SOUNDS GREAT!
When my FC5 switch pedal arrives I might program a 2nd performance and juggle brass, the organ and reed piano. It will be annoying that I can’t decrement the performance (I only have 1 pedal - FC5 - to change performance).
Did I say I LOVE my new CP?

Nice.

I guess you could always reach up and hit the Split button, to turn off the piano and let the organ or reed piano take over.

Yeah, it'd be nice if you could move both up AND down the Performance line-up, not just up OR down. Sometimes when you need multiple Performances for a song, and you need to return to a prior one, you have to duplicate the same Performance in two Performance slots.
