Hi,
I just want to either setup Program change or Midi Transmit channel from the Mox6 using a pedal or buttons on the Mox6 itself. We are using the Mox as a keyboard controller only and using software VSTi. I want to be able to be able to press the pedal and cycle up/down sending PC or Midi Transmit to change the sounds on the VSTI. I don't plan on using any Mox sounds anymore so we are just looking for the simplest way to do either of these.
Thanks for any help
Jason
Welcome to YamahaSynth!
The MOX6 sends Bank Select and Program Changes on any MIDI channel you desire. What we cannot know is what VSTi you are controlling and whether or not it receives Program Changes at all. Or even if it receives on a specific Channel.
You have not provided enough information in your question for us to help you, sorry. Not all VSTi require MIDI Channels, nor do they all accept Program Changes. When you figure out which VSTi you want to control and if it can receive this type of information - then get back to us here in the LEGACY YAMAHA SYNTH forum.
Hi
Thanks, I am using Sampletank 3 stand alone which can switch patches either using PC or just tell it what midi input channel you want to play sounds from. I have already done this with a small controller I just need need to know how to setup the Mox to just do this.
Thanks
Jason
You want use the MASTER mode to setup and control your VSTi. Fortunately, the MOX Master mode is identical in operation to the MOXF, so you can follow the article referenced below. Since you are not going to be using internal MOX sounds, simply set the Zone or Zones you wish to use for EXT (External) only.
The article explains Bank Select and Program Change messages, and as you will see you can send the messages on any MIDI channel you desire. You can even activate MIDI SEND, which allows you to change Programs in real time. Read through it and if you get stuck or have specific questions post back here.
Alternatively, you may want to investigate the MOX6/MOX8 Remote Editor, the MOX comes with many pre-made templates for popular VSTi already made. When using the MOX in DAW Remote mode you can use the front panel controls to control parameters of the VSTi - the parameter names actually appear in your MOX screen... I believe SampleTank is one of the pre-made templates (it might have been SampleTank 2 but it is customizable)... Sorry, I have no experience with the SampleTank program. But since you own it and you own a MOX you may want to investigate what is already setup to use.
The REMOTE EDITOR is available for free download ("Remote Tools") at http://download.yamaha.com
Thanks so much, I will check it out and get back. Let me ask you this real quick is there an easy way to sign PC up/down to a foot controller to press and just load PC 1, Then press for PC2, etc. Or do the same with any buttons on the Mox itself?

The Program Change INCREMENT/DECREMENT function basically is designed to work for the MOX itself. You originally were asking about sending that OUT via MIDI. When you press the [INC] button or the [DEC] button on the MOX it will advance or retreat through its own Programs, while sending that same information OUT via MIDI. That may have little or nothing to do with your computer program. It is addressing the Program numbers of the MOX, 1-128.
That is if the MOX is set to VOICE mode and Full Concert Grand 001(A01) is called up - and you press the [INC] button, Bank Select 063/000 and Program Change number 002 will be sent OUT via MIDI. If you set the Bank Select switch OFF, then just PC 002 will be sent. [UTILITY] > [F6] MIDI > [SF2] SWITCH > BankSel = Off, PgmCh = On
You can set the Foot Switch to send Program Change INCREMENT or Program Change DECREMENT, (basically the same as pressing the front panel buttons) by setting the Foot Switch = cc98 and cc99 respectively. If Bank Select is set to transmit the MOX will transmit its own corresponding Bank Select numbers along with the Program Change number (this will most like not be recognized by anything other than a Yamaha product) But if you turn BANK SELECT switch OFF, then only the corresponding Program Change number 1-128 will be sent when you step on the Foot Switch. This may or may not work for your external device situation because you cannot specify anything but the Program Change number of the current MOX Program, 1-128.
If you use the MASTER mode you can specify whatever Program Change number you desire.
