I have a MOX8. (There does not seem to be a category just for this keyboard, so I picked the closest one, I thought.)
My MOX8 seems to have a malfunction where, while I am playing, after about 5 minutes of starting in the middle of playing, what sounds like a chorus or reverb effect will suddenly appear on the notes. To be clear, I am only playing the keyboard keys and not touching any knobs, buttons, or sliders at any time.
It's especially noticeable on the concert piano voice. It completely ruins anything I am playing for this effect to suddenly appear out of nowhere. I thought it happens most often when I strike the keys harder, so related to velocity, but I don't know if that is true or just my mis-perception.
I have owned this keyboard since I bought it used in about 2014,and this bug only started occurring about 2~3 months ago. So this is a completely new problem it's never had before.
Is there a way I can stop this effect malfunction from occurring?
We moved your post to “Legacy Yamaha Synth” - synthesizers from this century.
Well, you seem to know that this is not a feature, and that something is wrong. You should take the unit to an authorized service center just as soon as possible. They will be better able to diagnose what exactly is going on.
If you want to be sure it’s “a chorus or reverb effect” you can simply bypass the Effects entirely... if you still have the problem, then we have eliminated an effect processor coming on by itself.
Chorus effects have a distinctly different sound from Reverb.
On your MOX8 front panel, just to the left of the screen, you have dedicated EFFECT BYPASS buttons.
Turn the light OFF for the INSERTION... see if the “effect” goes away
Turn the light OFF for the SYSTEM... see if the “effect” goes away
Finally turn the light OFF for the MASTER... see if the “effect” goes away
If you still hear the problem and nothing else (like a computer or a laptop) is connected to your instrument... contact your service center.
