hello. I need some help with my yamaha motif xs6. If anyone can tell me anything I will appreciate it. So the problem is that there isn't any sound coming out of the synthesizer. Even when its connected to headphones you can't hear a thing. When I move the sliders and knobs for the different tones it doesn't move on the actual screen. I've noticed that everything is on Zero and I don't know how to change it. I have gone through the manual but I can't find the solution. PLEASE NEED HELP!!!

Welcome to YamahaSynth!

There are several things to check when things become non-responsive. Then if all else fails you can execute a Factory Set.

Let's start with a basic check of your System (Utility) settings:
Press [UTILITY]
Press [F1] GENERAL
Press [SF1] PLAY
Make sure the VOLUME = 127 (this is your instrument's main output volume _ this can get changed when playing back .mid files with musical fade outs)

Press [SF2] I/O
Make sure mLAN MONITOR SETUP = stand alone (this is the setting that ensures the audio is routed to the main analog outputs)

Press [F5] CONTROL
Press [SF2] MIDI
Make sure LOCAL CONTROL = ON (this connects the XS keyboard and controllers to the XS tone generator)
Make sure MIDI SYNC = internal (this ensures the XS runs according to its own internal clock)

If these settings are all in place and you still have no response, you can execute a Factory Set... Which will reset your instrument all USER settings will be lost and the instrument will be returned to factory condition. You should make a backup ALL data file to save your work. If you are unsure how to do this, let us know.

FACTORY SET:
Press [UTILITY]
Press [JOB]
Press [ENTER]
Press [YES]

If you still have no response let us know.

Hello. I have tried both the fix and the factory set and neither has helped the situation. everything has stayed the same. I move the knobs and the slides but the arent responsive on the midi screen. Could it be some sort of electrical problem?

I'm sorry, what is a "midi screen".

If you have performed a Factory Set and your instrument still is not able to respond, you may want to take it to an authorized Service Center for a checkup.

we are not sure what "stayed the same" means exactly. The KNOBS and SLIDERS do not move in the screen until you pass the small little arrow that indicates where the value is stored. Neither the KNOBS nor the SLIDERS are motorized, so when you recall a Program their position is going to be out-of-sync with reality. The SLIDERS and KNOBS always look like your real SLIDERS and KNOBS... what is recalled in the Program is likely to be different... so look for the small little arrow in the screen that indicates the stored value. As you pass that stored value the KNOBS and SLIDERS will become active and change the parameter.

in the screenshot below - see the small red arrows that indicate where the sliders were STORED in this particular VOICE. Not until the slider is moved past that red arrow does it become "live".

You seem to be saying that your instrument is not working referring to the screen - but when you say it is not making any SOUND... that is a definite problem worthy of a trip to the shop.
