Does anyone know If any of the Drum Samples (be warned, there are thousands) are related to these early/vintage Drum machines.

I listened to stacks looking for "close enough" BD, Snare and HiHat. I'm no expert, but noticed "clues" in some of the Names like "T9" etc which I guess is a TR909.

I never realised there could be so much variation.

Song in question is Bronski Beat - Small Town Boy, which has some very basic, but distinctive beats... these apparently were originally done on a Linn Drum Machine.

FYI... Yamaha DX7 Harp1 preset is the famous riff... it's on the MODX too! Didn't have to adjust anything lol 🙂

Anyways, if not on MODX, does anyone know if you can buy a Linn Sample pack?

And look here for a ton of other good stuff: https://www.musicradar.com/news/tech/free-music-samples-royalty-free-loops-hits-and-multis-to-download

Have a look at the preset: "Sentimental Boy", it's seemingly modelled on the song.

Sorry, I should say

Preset Performance.

Where's the edit button gone?

@Andrew... thanks for the tip. I'd say those parts minus the arps are reminiscent.

But if truth be told, you'll find all "instruments" in the MODX Presets, and I now realise, the Free Montage_Expanded Library which has a bunch of imported original DX7 presets. All instruments that is except drums... and maybe that's just because I can't locate them (massive sample set to wade through).

FM-X Harp1, Brass1, Brass2, Brass3 and Marimba will give you some mileage (I'm going from memory). 3rd Perf in Cat Search Main = Bass, Sub = Synth covers the Bass - forget the name.

@Dragos... thanks, I will store for future reference if I ever get round to getting a PC and DAW up and running.

Anyways... Linn Drum Samples in a MODX/MONTAGE Library.... does anyone know of any? Maybe a drum Library without specific reference to Linn (copyright issues etc)?

I did a search on:

linn drum sample library wav

... and found a bunch to choose from.

There was a free LM-2 sample pack. I downloaded the ZIP and saw samples were 96k, 24-bit. You may have to convert them in your choice of free (open source, public domain) audio apps. I think there's lots to choose from out there - commercial and free. The free pack was advertised here: https://musictech.com/news/get-free-linndrum-lm-2-sounds-with-beaotics-lmfree-library/

I wouldn't necessarily stop there - it was close to the top of the list. There may be others that will work fine too.

I can't tell you which are "best". I think there's enough from a search to get you started.

@J... thanks.

The natural progression of this thread then asks... How do you convert hundreds of individual .xyz sound samples into MODX Keybanks or Library Files?

Samplerobot may be a way as well. Although free for Montage - one would need to decide which set of features to pay for on the MODX side.

I remember a few years ago I was able to downloaded from Moessieurs website - https://www.moessieurs.com/Motifs/voice_samples_xs.html a Linn Drum and other modules sound libraries for XS/XF??
However, now if you click on the Motifator link for Zozole - http://www.motifator.com/index.php/forum/viewthread/468364/, the dropbox link no longer works:( 🙁 There is also a discussion between him and Dave Polich
Perhaps Moessieurs has an updated link??

Dave or Joel should be able to track that down for you. I'm mobile so looking up the contact info is difficult right now. Joel should have contact info here https://www.moessieurs.com/ and Dave at https://davepolich.com/home

Wowsers!

Panning and an amazing demo!!!

Epic. Thank you, Martin.

Adrian is the life of the MODX/Montage party. And a treasure trove.

Yamaha, you given this guy a White Montage, yet?
