Can I Turn Off Audio Over USB?

Hello, wondering if it's possible to make my synth NOT recognizable as an audio device by my Ipad. Here's my issue:

I've got an Ipad Mini Gen 4 that I use with Set List Maker to change performances on the MODX+ via a USB cable. Set List Maker also sends a click track through the Ipad's headphone jack to the band's mixer. As long as I plug in the TRS cable to the Ipad's headphone jack after plugging in the MODX+ to the USB port, the Ipad will send the click through the headphone jack as intended.

However, when I put the Ipad to sleep in between sets (saves battery), the Ipad will default to sending the click to the MODX+ when it wakes back up. This necessitates unplugging and re-plugging the cable into the Ipad's headphone jack every time which is extremely annoying.

This is an interface flaw in the Ipad which Apple seems to have no interest in patching out, so I'm wondering if there's a way to turn off the USB audio on the MODX+ so it's not recognizable as an audio device but still receives MIDI over USB. Is that possible?

   Thanks,

   Ivan

There is no way to do that we are aware of.

Does set list maker have anything to say about this?  Like a way to force it to use a certain device for its audio output?  I'm wondering if you USB hub connected both MODX and an external audio interface which one would "win" when the iPad wakes from sleep and become Set List Maker's audio output for the click.

AFAIK, iOS always sends audio to what it sees as the last-connected audio device. I don't think an app can override this behavior, though I'd be glad to be shown to be mistaken.

I think the best solution here for the OP is to set the iPad to never sleep, and leave it plugged into AC so you don't have to worry about running down the battery. You'll need Apple's "Lightning to USB 3 Camera Adapter" (or 3rd-party equivalent if you're willing to take a chance) in order to connect that iPad to the MODX and to AC power simultaneously.

I agree.  Gen 4 has a lightning connector like my Gen 6 iPad.  I have a camera adapter and use it for USB connectivity while also supplying power to keep the iPad charged.

This is "doctor, my arm hurts when I move it like this .... Then don't do that" kind of suggestion.  Those camera adapters can be found fairly cheap - so there's not necessarily a reason not to get one and call it a day.
