When I login to Soundmondo in Google Chrome and connect it to my MODX8 via USB, I do get an audio signal confirming the USB connection but Soundmondo doesn't recognize the MODX (remains red: Disconnected). Both Chrome and my MODX are fully updated, Chrome has MIDI permissions, and my MODX is set to use USB as MIDI IN/OUT. I also read about people who installed the Yamaha Steinberg usb driver for connecting to Soundmondo, which could then be the reason for why I cannot connect to Soundmondo.
Do I need to install this driver on my laptop for connecting the MODX to Soundmondo via Google Chrome?

The Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver allows your MODX to address your computer for Audio and MIDI recording. You would need it to do low latency recording to a computer or laptop… it is an ASIO (Audio Streaming Input/Output) compatible driver communicating bi-directionally with DAW (Digital Audio Workstation) software like Cubase, Logic Pro, Pro Tools, Ableton Live etc. handling both multiple Ports of MIDI and multiple Ports of audio.
There is no audio component to Soundmondo (you are hearing your MODX because you’ve connected the Main L/R Outputs to a sound system (or you are using headphones), Soundmondo is strictly two-way MIDI communication. Soundmondo does not require that you have the driver installed - but it should be installed to your computer when working with a program that can record/playback the MODX. In which case you would need to install the appropriate version for your computer type and Operating System.

I don't know if things have changed (maybe they have) - and my experience is with the Montage which is related but not the same. I found the driver needed to be installed in order for, when I was evaluating this, the WebMIDI javascript to recognize the keyboard. Using class-compliant MIDI the instrument did not identify properly to the code which interfaced with the keyboard. So although MIDI communication does not require the driver - the WebMIDI layer of this solution did.
I guess I can retest on the Montage. I need to also retest anyhow in order see if other bugs with the driver and WebMIDI interoperability have been addressed or not.
Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R
Thank you so much: installing the Yamaha Steinberg USB Driver seems to have worked, as I now do get a green Connected indicator! That's the good news.
Not so good is that when I try to Sync a Performance (select a Performance and then click Sync) nothing happens on my MODX (also after several seconds) and my computer opens up a /voices/sync/ page where it looks like I'm expected to upload a performance - instead of play/store one (e.g. https://soundmondo.yamahasynth.com/voices/sync/89244).
What am I doing wrong??
