I have some 80’s libraries I bought on Key fax when I had the Motif XS, then I later upload them to the XF and work perfectly. My question is if there is a way these 80’s libraries can be uploaded to the MoDX ?

The MODX can load .X0A (Motif XS All data) files and .X3A (Motif XF All data) files. From these files you can choose to load “Voices” which will convert the Voice data to MODX Single Part Performances. All Voices, Waveforms and Arpeggios will be converted. Or you can choose to convert the legacy “Performances” which will convert them to MODX Multi Part Performances. All Performances, Waveforms and Arpeggios will be converted.

Data not converted includes Master programs, Songs, Patterns, Mixing programs.
Songs and Patterns must be exported as Standard MIDI Files (SMF) in .mid format.

Please see the MODX Reference Manual (pdf) page 200 for details on all the compatible file Types.

I highly recommend that before you turn your new Synthesizer into your old Synthesizer, that you take the time to explore what’s new about the MODX. Most data will convert without issue, depending on Waveform formatting.

The MODX User Bank can hold 640 Performances. That’s 5 sets of 128.
The User Bank can be turned into a Library (remains in semi-permanent Flash ROM).
You can install eight Libraries of 640 or 5120 programs in the 1.75GB of Flash

Where MODX engine expands on the Motif engine is in the Control Assign matrix. Where you used to have just six Source/Destination “Control Sets” per Part (4 Parts) in the Motif, you now have sixteen Source/Destination “Control Sets per Part (8 Parts) in MODX. Where you used to have just two Assign Knobs per Part in the Motif series, you have an astounding eight Assign Knobs per Part, any of which can be linked to the “Super Knob”.

This Knob System means you can with a single gesture be changing scores of parameters across all 16 Parts in ways you’ve never had available before. Linking a Part Assign Knob to the Super Knob lets you control precise movements of parameters within your sound... it is not just layering sounds and opening the filters on all sounds... one gesture can send each controlled Part’s Filter in a precise movement as you design...

Thank you very much for your explanation. I also wanted to ask you if the MoDX has lots of Arpeggios (of it's own) that can be modified just like in the Motif XF ? and also if you can do your own arpeggios on the MoDX ?

Yes,
maybe (using inboard sequencer, no MODX does not have the same editor; using DAW or notation software, yes),
yes

If you want to "edit" a built in ARP (there are thousands including all of the XF series ARPs), I would force ARPs to output all notes - not just the trigger note(s) and save that MIDI either with a DAW or the built-in Performance recorder. Then edit and convert the modified MIDI file to a user ARP.

Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R

Humberto - if you’re talking about the 80’s Pop/Rock libraries - they don’t have any user waveforms, they use only preset waveforms. You could load as a new library and then decide which you want to import to your User memory. Other “80s” libraries - no idea

There are 10,239 Arpeggios in the MODX. And yes you can create your own by converting appropriate MIDI data from the MODX’s built-in Play/Rec feature.

This means you can record the data or load the data (.mid) to the MODX internal Play/Rec function, then convert the data to the User Arp. The same “Put Track to Arpeggio” Function found in the Motif XF is included in the MODX. (The key is selecting data that makes for good Arp phrases).

Arpeggio Phrases can be manipulated in the same way as in the XF, using the Arp Play FX. These can be used to offset timing, swing quantize, Velocity, etc. Arp Select functions have been upgraded to allow for eight phrases. Arp selection can be linked to the eight Scene recall buttons.

As a branch of the Arpeggiators is the dedicated Motion Sequencer, which can be used to create ‘controller phrases’. These are like Arps without notes— as they are for parameter changes instead of musical phrases. These, too, can be selected directly, and/or linked to any Scene recall. You can mix and match Arps and Motion Sequences via Scene links.

256 User Arps can be stored in the User Bank.
And that’s 2048 in the eight Library locations.
256 User Motion Sequences can be stored in the User Bank.
That’s 2048 total across the eight Libraries.

When loading legacy files, MOXF, Motif XS/XF, the User Arps are compatible... and can be imported with Waveforms and Voices/Performances.
