When trying to restore a backup file on my MODX8, I get an Illegal File error.
Basically, I successfully create a backup and then try to restore it immediately.
I am able to copy user Library files, so the USB key is not the problem.
I am running the latest firmware. Anybody else have this problem?
I am able to copy user Library files, so the USB key is not the problem.
Not sure how that proves the USB key is not the problem. The issue is whether or not the MODX can use the USB stick, not that you can copy files with your computer.
Try making (Save) a User File (.X8U)
Then Load it immediately back to the MODX.
You do so by setting the “Contents Type” = User File.
This will determine if the MODX can use your USB stick.
If successful, then attempt to make (Save) a BACKUP FILE (.X8A)
When attempting to restore (Load) a Backup File, make sure the “Contents Type” = Backup File.
If you set the wrong “Contents Type” for the File you are attempting to LOAD, you might receive an “Illegal File!” error Message.
Just to clarify, I copied the files from my computer to the USB drive and then from the MODX, I load them into the User Library with no issues.
I will try what you suggested as well.
So I tried the exact procedure suggested.
Try making (Save) a User File (.X8U) - SUCCESS
Then Load it immediately back to the MODX. - SUCCESS
If successful, then attempt to make (Save) a BACKUP FILE (.X8A) - SUCCESS
When attempting to restore (Load) a Backup File, make sure the “Contents Type” = Backup File. - ERROR - Illegal File
I then powered off and restarted the MODX and then:
Try making (Save) a User File (.X8U) - SUCCESS
Then Load it immediately back to the MODX. - SUCCESS
If successful, then attempt to make (Save) a BACKUP FILE (.X8A) - SUCCESS
When attempting to restore (Load) a Backup File, make sure the “Contents Type” = Backup File. - SUCCESS
Your welcome.
I should have tried the reboot first.
Thanks for your time! 😀 😀
