Hi - does anyone knows how to configure those two amazing machines?
I can only record sounds coming from MODX (2.52) to AKAI FORCE (3.1) via audio cables (audio .wav clips) - MIDI and USB option seems "very difficult to set up"
.. any help would be appreciated !

So what do you want to do? Sequence the MODX from the Force? Record MIDI from MODX into the Force?

The MODX can Output MIDI data either via the 5-pin MIDI OUT port on the back panel (referred to as “MIDI” ) or via the USB “To Host” port on the back panel (referred to as USB). You must choose based on how you are connected to your sequencing device.

Press [UTILITY]
Touch “Settings” > “MIDI I/O” > set the “MIDI I/O” = MIDI or USB (green is active)

The MODX can be used as a 16-Part Multi-timbral Tone Generator:
From the HOME screen:
Press [CATEGORY]
The “Performance Category Search” screen appears
Set “Bank/Favorite” = All
Set “Attribute” = All
Select “Init”
Select “Multi/GM”

This will recall an Initialized Multi template…
Part 1 = Ch1
Part 2 = Ch2
Part 3 = Ch3
and so on through
Part 16 = Ch16

You can then begin replacing individual Parts using “Part Category Search”
To do so you must *select* a Part — you can do so by tapping the Part# slot in the screen, or by pressing the [PART SELECT__MUTE/SOLO] button on the right front panel, then select the Part # in the screen overlay.

Because you have *selected* a Part, pressing [CATEGORY] now launches the “Part x Category Search”
where ‘x’ is the Part number
Set the “Bank/Favorite” = All
Set the “Attribute” = Single
This will display the Single Part instruments (green) — you refine your search by setting “Main” and “SubCategory”
Rinse and repeat for each Part and Channel you wish to record.

That should get you started on the MODX side of things.

Extra Credit
If you are having trouble setting and recording to your external device, you can always record the MODX to its own built-in Sequencer.
The results can be exported to a USB memory stick or directly to a computer as a .mid file.

.mid files are the universal way to move Sequence data from one MIDI sequencer to another.

Hope that helps.
