There are no user options for upgrading. There are no slots, drives, or memory sticks that can be replaced. The memory is integrated on the PCB.

MODX is already pretty smooth and pretty fast - the lessons learned from the previous XF- Models (MOXF and Motif XF) that featured user Flash as an option have come to fruition in the new MODX and MONTAGE. Both products have pre-planned improvements ... the Motif and Mo series synths evolved magnificently over a 15 year period... thru SIMMs, DIMMs and ultimately Flash; thru SCSI, SmartMedia, USB... as the product lines go forward expect improvements... count on them. Check in from time to time for firmware updates.

Oh I've been hearing findings of lag issues on the modx cutting out during the demo feature. Plus finding a loss of velocity layers compared to the Montage. I heard one YouTube video talking about the modx having a ssd drive. Hmmm maybe a picture of internals would be nice to see. 😀 Ok Who's first? Lol

There's no loss of velocity layers compared to the Montage. They the programs are identical and for my ears they sound identical. I have not experienced any lag issues and no cutting out.

You won't see my MODX from the inside, that's private. Sorry :p And I don't think it is an SSD. It is using direct flash memory. But honestly, I don't care. Switching between sounds is pretty much instantaneous and that's the only thing I care about.

I'm planning to buy a Modx6 in the next 3-4 months If Korg bombs again at winter Namm. A Kronos / Krome successor may just become reality. :p :p :p :p

Come on people pop open $4000 Korg Kronos all the time. Who's going to be the first to open up a Modx? :p

It would be more beneficial for you to purchase the service manual. That would give you any information opening the unit would. The Kronos has parts that can be replaced (with off the shelf components) unlike the embedded design of MODX/Montage.
