Hey all,

If I want to send MIDI from my iphone to the MODX, what is the easiest way to do that? Right now it would be possible through an IDAM connection between iPhone and my MacBook and make a MIDI Through on macbook to MODX. But does anyone have experience here with a simpler setup where I don't have to use the MacBook?
For context: I want to try out an App called MusiKraken to use my iphone and apple watch as a midi controller. Yesterday I tried to connect the iphone via USB to Modx, but that didn't work out of the box. So I'm missing a step here. Maybe some of you guys can help.

That should work. Since you haven't explained what you tried, let's start with the basics. If it's an iPhone with a lightning connector, make sure you're using Apple's USB-to-lightning adapter ("camera adapter"). On the Yamaha, make sure its MIDI connection parameter is set to USB. Make sure your app (which should have some menu for where to send its MIDI) is set to send to the MODX.

The workaround doesn't work for me anymore so I can't read Scott's previous reply.  But USB works for me between iOS devices and MODX (for me: Montage classic - same connectivity and setup options as MODX).  I have a device with a lightning connector so I use a camera adapter to go from lightning to standard USB-A then use a USB-A to USB-B cable (aka printer cable) to connect to the keyboard's USB TO HOST port (not USB TO DEVICE).   MIDI works using this although apps I usually use are MIDI monitor apps on iOS or Camelot Pro. Not familiar with MusiKraken.  Options may vary from app to app depending on what's implemented.

Current Yamaha Synthesizers: Montage Classic 7, Motif XF6, S90XS, MO6, EX5R

If you don't have Camera connection kit (assuming your iPhone uses lightning connector), you don0t mind a little bit of latency, and you don't want to use PC as "mediator" you could buy one of these WIDI (Wireless Bluetooth MIDI Adapters), Yamaha makes one (MDBT01) but I am using CME WIDI Master.

You just plug it in your MIDI IN and MIDI OUT 5-pin DIN connectors, connect using iPhone/iPad app, do the firmware update, and you are good to go.

Just don't forget to change connection from USB to MIDI in your synth settings.
