my MODX6 came with a PA-150B power supply. I was wondering if a PA-150 power supply will work on the MODX6. when it comes to a wall wart, I always want a back-up power supply....Larry
Yes, they are interchangeable... and it is very wise to always carry a backup! I always remind gigging musicians to keep a spare in that utility pouch on their keyboard bag.
The PA150B is a “universal” power supply... it can handle 100-240V ... how that works is you swap out the ‘plug section’ which actually connects to the wall for the appropriate connector. You’ll notice on the 150B you can remove/separate the plug from the adapter section.
Regular PA150 are voltage specific. Just simply get the PA150 with the plug section rated for your Voltage (typically, that is what you’ll find wherever you live).
is the PA130 (MOXF) compatible? They are both 12V, it appears the PA150 is rated 1.5A vs 1.0A for the PA130? Can't find MODX power consumption requirement if 1.5A is needed?
PA130 is NOT, repeat NOT compatible...
Thanks Phil.
Just so you know...
Products that specify PA150, must use PA150.
A product rated to use a PA130, can use a PA150. Never, ever the other way ‘round.
A product will not draw more current than it needs.
It’s the current (Amperes) that is important here. Matching the Voltage, everyone knows to do that, but if your power supply cannot supply the Amps (current or flow) necessary, you have a ‘hungry’ product, not getting enough fuel for it to do its thing properly. This is when bad things like overheating and worse can happen. Smoke appears somewhere...
The PA 150 is a 12 volt DC, 1 amp power supply.
The PA 150B is a 12 volt DC, 1.5 amp power supply = 50% more current.
You can look up photos of each on the net to verify.
The manual states that the MODX draws 16 watts of power.
Using a simple power formula found all over the net:
12 volts @ 16 watts equates to a 1.333 amp draw - more than the PA 150 can deliver.
2 questions:
Why is there so much misinformation about this?
And why is the PA 105B not available in the US?
I did find one on ebay for $51 though!
I bought an properly spec'd adapter on Amazon:
