Having trouble removing an effect from a three-part performance.  How is this done?

Hi, there are two insertion FX at part level, common system FX Variation and reverb at common level, master FX on the top of that, so depend what you want to remove.

Variation and Reverb effects can be applied in varying depths for each Part.  They are set as two different effects that can be shared among all of the Parts and any Part can opt out or in by selecting the Part's Reverb or Variation send level.  If you want to get rid of Variation and Reverb ("system" ) effects altogether, navigate to the routing page in the common area:

1) Press the [PERFORMANCE] (HOME) physical button

2) Touch the Performance name near the top of the touchscreen - you will see a popup menu on the left side

3) Touch the "Edit" option in the popup

4) On the left side of the screen select the "Effect" category and "Routing" sub-category

5) Turn OFF "Var" (variation), Turn OFF "Rev" (reverb), Turn OFF "MFX" (master effects)

As a side note, master effects are shared by all Parts at all times unless you turn off MFX.  There is no individual part opt in/out for MFX.

You may want to toggle each to hear the impact of turning off the given effect.  If you find out it's variation, then you could turn this back on and more surgically opt out of variation on a part-by-part level.   There's another menu that lets you globally turn on/off Insertion or System or Master effects -- you can use this too but it's more prone to error.

Here's a video: https://youtu.be/feQFj5_0A-s?t=794

If you want to do something similar as above on insertion effects then you need to go into every Part and navigate to the Effects routing page at the Part level.

1) Press the [PERFORMANCE] (HOME) physical button

2) Touch the Part you want to edit (one of the columns along the bottom half of the screen) - you will see a popup menu on the left side

3) Touch the "Edit" option in the popup

4) On the left side of the screen select the "Effect" category and "Routing" sub-category

5) Turn OFF "A" (Insertion Effect A), Turn OFF "B" (Insertion Effect B)

... rinse and repeat for every Part

If you do want to "opt out" of a system and/or variation effect at the Part level, the easiest way is:

1) Press the [PERFORMANCE] (HOME) physical button

2) On the left hand side touch the "Mixing" tab

3) From the mixing screen you will see "Rev Send" and "Var Send" for each Part (or at least the 1st 8 if "Audio" is selected)

4) Set "Rev Send" to 0 for each Part you want to remove from the reverb system effect and set "Var Send" to 0 for each Part you want to remove from the varation system effect.

If you watch the full video linked here - it should explain everything and Montage is similar to MODX with the exception that the panel buttons are different in MODX which doesn't allow for some of the button shortcuts Blake was using.  That said, what I described in steps here doesn't use any of those Montage-only buttons and gets you to the same screens.
