Where does the 2.0 Update reside inside the montage is it in user file, user library or parts unknown? If I load Motif Performance files will they overwrite the updated Performances. When I hit utility button it is telling me to install flash drive, does the flash drive have to be in for the update to be working. I thought once it was in the flash drive can be removed. Any help appreciated. With a mcDonalds $15 hour and time and a half I can buy another montage with all the time I've spent trying to get the update done.

Please read the instructions... we could repeat them here but then you wouldn’t learn that the download provides you everything you need in terms of instructions.

Hint: it is not a file you can load. Read the instructions ... you just power on the MONTAGE with that usb stick in the slot while holding the two buttons that launch the update routine. It’s all in the instructions.

When all else fails read the instructions!!!!! Famous last words, I didn't get any instructions thats why I am seeking help here. It says the update is completed but why is it telling me to please connect USB device?? Does the flash drive have to remain in for update to work? I don't think it should. Do you think I should repeat the download?? It is showing V2.0 in the screen now!! But I don't know what changes to look for or where I should look to find them. Thanks for any help you might can offer anyone!!!!

Of course you did. Every download includes a Data List, a New Feature Supplementary Manual in 11 Languages, and two ReadMe Files (one in Japanese, one in English).

Read the “Readme” File, use your computer... just double click on it. But don’t claim you didn’t get any instructions... that’s just silly. Everyone else did. (lol).

I'm not sure what your computer (PC, Mac, other) or operating system is (Windows 10, OSX 11.3, etc) - but modern operating systems can handle ZIP files by double clicking. Then you'll be able to uncover what's inside.

Inside of the firmware ZIP file (MONTAGE_V200.ZIP) you'll find a PDF document: "montage_en_nf_e0.pdf"

The "_nf_" part of the document filename denotes "New Features". Read this document. Page 3, btw, of this document tells you where to look to find the new 99 Performances. It tells you to read the data list.

Inside of the firmware ZIP file (MONTAGE_V200.ZIP) you'll find a PDF document: "montage_en_dl_f0.pdf"

The "_dl_" part of the document filename denotes "Data List". Read this document (it's long, not the whole thing). You're looking for Performances. The contents on the first page of the document shows page 2 starts the performance list. Ok - flip to the second page. You see on the top-left of page 2 is the phrase "*1 The new Performances added by firmware version 2.00 update."

From here you can do a search on "*1" (without the quotes = asterisk then one). You'll see 99 of these. Use [CATEGORY SEARCH] to type in the name in full or in part in the search by name area (magnifying glass). There are other resources for you to find out more about version 2.0.

Here's one: http://www.moessieurs.com/os-200.html

There's more - including videos, demos, other forum posts, more documentation, Yamaha's own Montage product page, etc. Please do become familiar with documentation and what information each document contains. There are more docs than what I am covering here - and you may need one of those others for some other task.

Inside of the firmware ZIP file (MONTAGE_V200.ZIP) you'll find a text file:

v200_Readme_en.txt

Here are the contents:

While I had no problem locating the new performances or with the update in general and like some of the additions and changes, I do wish Yamaha would do a better job explaining how to utilize the new features. (This is a long-standing issue, not just with 2.0). Why, for example, must we rely on Joel and use the Moessier's French translations to learn specifically how to do the new things available? The pdf should have these explanations clearly spelled out in a "How To" format. And not in an awkward to read translation from French. I certainly applaud Joel's efforts to show users how it's done. But in the Read me pdf and the montage_en_dl_f0.pdf - that simply does not exist. There are dozens of "now you can" in a list format and lists of data. That's hardly instructional.

But in the Read me pdf and the montage_en_dl_f0.pdf

This is the Data List (dl) and does not include explanations. It is the New Feature (nf) pdf (Supplementary Manual - the one that comes in the 11 different languages) that has the explanations and screenshots of the new features. Check it out!

This website, itself, is here to explain how to utilize the instrument - specifically. Please look around - much of the support you see elsewhere began here, in many cases. We encourage all folks interested in learning more about their instrument come back often - each week there are new posts here, new articles, new tutorials, new information about how to utilize your instrument and interesting ways your peers are using the instrument, as well. And if you have a specific question, you can ask and get a response.

This site has already posted videos and explanations on the firmware update (2/7/17), but again you have must read it or watch the embedded videos. 🙂

Due to NAMM - there was more information on v2.0 than practically any other release out there.

A search engine finds, when searching for videos, with the search phrase "yamaha montage 2.0":

... and so on

Some are from Yamaha - some are not. Some are French.

This is not all the information out there - but it does help to be resourceful.

Understand what you've been asking for is a moving target. Your first post was venting without much of a question. Then a follow-up asking how to find WHAT changed (not specifically how to use it features with specifics on what you're not clear on). Seems like in the second message you still weren't clear on the update process so that was the focus. Then there was a different thread you started where you were specifically asking where to find performances (which is why I covered that in detail in my previous response). I guess understand support appreciates when it appears there's effort to meet half-way.

Mr. Jason it appears there are two Gary's asking you about this update and I was asking about the update and Motif XF FILES. Thanks for your help I found the performance files. what happened on my update was a frieky thing happened. I have Macbook. Drag and Drop it on the USB Icon but it did not load the info. I didnt know it. When I tried to put it in it wouldn't go in and keep saying please install device when in fact it was in. I removed and checked the uSB for contents and it had the pdf files on there I removed them and then it installed the information and went to downloading. Success is happy even if it takes all day. My meeting you half way was a lot more effort on me because I am not nearly as proficient as you. But thanks for all you did.

Gentlemen, the "second" Gary mentioned is me. I have changed my avatar to avoid confusion, sorry about that Gary #1.

My question was answered by Stefan in response to another's concern of how to program the Super Knob (a different thread - "Had my Montage Over a year, etc.). His short tutorial, which makes it sound amazingly simple in OS 2.0 (I can't wait to go home and try it out!), is the kind of thing I was asking about. I quote Stefan here:

"A very short tutorial: Say you have a performance with three parts. You want to program the volume of two parts to change with the superknob. So in the performance screen tap on the volume of the first part. The control assign button is then lit. Press it, waggle the superknob. Then the first part's volume is connected to the superknob. Repeat the same with the second part. That's it. Instead of the volume every other parameter which can be assigned as a destination for the controls can be used in the same way".

I could not find simple explanations such as this in any of the demos, the New Features file, or the readme files. I know Hans Peter and Dom Sigalas mentioned how to do this in their videos, but it went by blazingly too fast for this slow brain to catch. Wouldn't it be great if quick little blurbs like this came with future firmware updates? I would love it, not just for this application, but all the important updates. Just a suggestion, I love the new OS, all the great new improvements!
