Toggle scene button during a play can be in some cases fastidious, is there a way to plug a midi pedal board to control the 8 scenes ? That would be great, specialy if your foot got one eye...

Not sure exactly what that means, but you can change the Scenes via MIDI command. You just need to find a "pedalboard" that can send the System Exclusive message to send it (no, Yamaha does not make such a device; and no thank you... )

F0 43 10 7F 1C 02 30 4C 00 dd F7

where "dd" is the Scene 1-8 (00-07)

yes , thank you. just a joke about the eye as it is not so easy without looking to reach the right switch.

Hello Natalini - I thought your joke was funny - I often wish my foot could see what it was doing, or even find the damn pedals, which tend to walk about! Just a thought, and I may be wrong, but the 'scenes' seem always to be variations of a single Performance, controlled by the Superknob, which can itself be controlled by an expression pedal - so by learning the angles of the expression pedal that correspond to the various scenes, it could be used to step through the scenes as required. Not precise, perhaps, but a workaround. I'm surprised you can't step through them in any pre-determined order using an FC3 on/off pedal, along the lines of the Tyros stepping through registrations. It's not a thing I've tried to do yet.

The default setting of the assignable FC5 foot switch is to proceed to the next scene.
By just tapping the switch way you can go from 1,2,3 to 8.

If you want to jump to a scene, you might consider to change the order and duplicate scenes manually.

You may or may not bump into limitations of Superknob if using to replace scenes - also foot control is an issue.

As far as finding pedals that support SysEx send - I see references to the Rocktron "All Access" - which in today's market is the Rocktron "Midi Raider". According to the manufacturer, the "Midi Raider" is a refresh of the "All Access" even down to the ability of swapping EEPROMs from one to the other.

I see references on how to construct a custom SysEx stream http://www.voodoolab.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=3349 for the Rocktron All Access which also applies to the Midi Raider. What I could not find is the limit on the SysEx length. The example, including framing bytes, is 8 bytes. BM's SysEx is 11 bytes (again, including framing). I see other messages where users are using longer SysEx messages than even 11 bytes - but this is not definitive as some of these messages include other hardware in the MIDI chain which may also be doing the SysEx message sending.

Using the search engine, looks like the Midi Raider will have a max SysEx message length of 30 - which is enough to cover scene changes.

The Midi Raider is a $460 item.

There are certainly less expensive devices which do SysEx send (such as the BCR2000 or BCF2000) but these are not for foot control.

Then there's the vintage route - which has a few choices including the Lake Butler Midi Mitigator (SysEx length up to 255 bytes).

DIY is a possibility if you are so inclined. Although that is certainly going off the "deep end".

If you want to spend even more, the manual for setting up SysEx is fairly clear for this device:

http://www.famcmusic.com/store/index.php?route=product/product&product_id=72

Which allows for chaining SysEx and building "scripts" (my word, not theirs) which includes a programmable delay between SysEx messages.

EDIT - Also, I see your other thread about the scene buttons being too far away to press. I use scene buttons starting with #8 and going backwards. It is rare that I use more than 4 scenes. This keeps the scene buttons close to my left-hand position.

(and comment on future product roadmap)
I would hope a future generation of the product, as I have mentioned before in the f/w update section, add more scene buttons and have these physically located along the length of the keyboard to give users the option of not only more scenes to save - but where the scene buttons may be located relative to where the hand is during the live performance when they want to do the scene switch.
(end of roadmap comment)

Off, 1 – 95,
Arp SW,
MS SW,
Play/Stop,
Live Set +, Live Set -,
